I'll probably get wolves at some point, I think I spotted a mountain not too far I'm just chilling in the Meadows for now because I'm trying to build a big village and it's taking me ages.

That's a relief then. I thought so but I also believed there could be other factors like what happens to raids (they not only need you to slain X boss but also you being in the proximity of 3 base structures) or new spawns (like skellies spawning in the meadows after defeating Bonemass). So I thought "what if the condition is not just the biome itself but also proximity to X elements of said biome?" so I wanted to make sure.

Our one regret was building big before we found out where all the resources we need were located. On my solo play over I waited until I found an island with large tracts of all the biomes. On that map I have access to all the different ores with no need to transport them to smelters for refining using sailing vessels and carts.

normally you are safe - plant them like you want to

Only if you get the random spawn attacks from my experience. Ive planted all trees in the meadows and really had no change.

We have pines in our community hub at spawn (meadows). Alas, not trolls spawn there. However, this might be related to something else, I noticed greydwarves and skeletons appear in the meadows. Though I wonder if that has to do with advancing through the bosses?

Beating Bonemass unlocks skellies to spawn in Meadows, not sure about greys. But I don't plan to defeat bosses in this particular world I just want to do some landscaping without having uninvited guests. I finally found a very quiet meadows with very low aggro levels. Just the eventual greyling that passes by from time to time.

If only I could tame necks that'd be perfect because they'd be able to patrol the area without me needing to tame pigs. I'm more of a lizard guy. But modding is a bit too complicated for me. I can manage to replace a few textures and audio and that's about it.
