It sounds like you've figured out how to do it: don't build your portal in the swamp, find a good nearby biome. This discovery is part of playing and enjoying the game.

Lol the swamp is a wake up call thats for sure and agree dying sucks but thats the lesson :D

yeah i did it dumb and packed in my portal to bring it with me to the outskirts of the swamp... survived a bit then my karve got blown up by slimes and skeletons and draugr. Shoulda set up near the dark forest nearby. Oh well. god mode to the rescue I guess.

no way to even get my ♥♥♥♥ without completely starting from scratch and taking hours to rebuild up... no way i'm doing that lol

oh and now it has killed my desire to play the game completely cause i feel like a cheater having done this and don't wanna mess up my game world. Very sad the way this game is tbh.

I just reload the last character and world autosave if it's going to be a major pain to recover. You can do this just using the save manager from the title menu.

Well... instead of just tossing rude names at you I thought it might be useful to give you a hint that might actually help, without spoiling to much. Yes dying sucks and yes the swamp is quite an increase on the difficulty scale after the dark forest. Like others have mentioned, your best bet is portals (to your main base for a better corpse run) at the edge of the swamp, fortified behind a simple palisade or something. Also try to aquire neck tails, charcoal and honey to brew poison resistance mead to mitigate the poison of leeches and slimes. If you are new to the game, run away from draugr with one or two stars... especially if they happen to be elite draugr (they will slaughter you if all you have is bronze tier armour). Another way to avoid leeches is by using the hoe to make a dry pathway through the swamp. This will help you aquire a safe retreat route and prevent being stuck in a pool of water and being gancked by everything that can still use their weapons whilst being submerged in water (in short everything that isn't you). Most importantly if it is your first time in the swamp... don't traverse the swamp at night. I hope this was more useful than just calling you rude names and asking you to uninstall the game and all the other usual stuff you get to hear in game forums.

Oh and if you see the occasional fire geyser here and there, try mining them out until they are flooded with water. Those are surtling spawners and thanks to the water the surtlings will die in no time, giving you a source of infinite charcoal and surtling cores. I guess you'll get past this annoyance/hurdle once you aquire iron armour. Despite some of the hostile reations here, we've all been there ourselves. So no reason to bash yourself over it. The plains will be far worse in that regard. In future try to keep some armour and equipment in spare for corpse runs... as you now know firsthand, how much it can suck.^^

oh damn i didn't even know this was possible lol i will keep that in mind. I just deleted my ♥♥♥♥ and am going to start over tbh, completely killed it for me

edit: i played this back when it came out and got up to plains and went back and destroyed all of the bastards that annoyed me, then i didn't play for a long time. Had a really cool kitted out guy too but i just figured I would start fresh. Game seems like mostly busy work tbh lol

First time we went to the swamp, we found it hard, but right now we're on our, I don't which runs anymore, and the swamps wasn't that big of a threat. You learn how to navigate it, learn how to parry reliably, set up a small outpost outside the swamp in meadows or black forest and leave your ship there too. Build a portal that goes to your base. Craft good food, upgrade your armour/weapons if needed. Try to navigate on the branches and fallen tree to avoid most enemies, use your sneak bonus from the troll armour. Make some potions (healing and anti-poison). And if you really find the swamps to be too much, the mountain and plains are even harder. So learning how to stay alive is the most important thing, then it'll be breeze, even wandering the swamps at night in troll armour becomes pretty easy.

I think i got a really difficult spawn. All of my swamps are surronded by plains. So i think i have died about 15 times trying to get to the swamp in the swamp and out from the swamp. This game is hard but i love it.

Alone, yes, I use the Softcore_Death mod by dch. At least this way, death is still "painful," but the mucking around on your own, trying to get gear back, is not. I have the radius set to 700, so it's only when I'm some distance from my bed spawn that the mod kicks in, which is handy when you die at sea.

Valheimplus makes the game enjoyable.
