Faster mining?

I started again playing the game and still find mining taking so long,so i decided to dig around the big copper and see it fall off ( saw a video about faster mining), but it didn't fell :C
Any tips? I'm with the tier 2 mining pick btw.

you won't like my answer... but being high level (mistlands gear) you mine faster (better pickaxe in ML update) and ML also drops copper scrap in bulk if you want to go that route.

As for a node or 2 being all you need ... not for builders. Several uses in home burn up large amounts.

if you are actually IN the copper era, get what you need as best you can and come back later when its easier to get.

What I did to make a copper vein explode, is starting to mine around it until at least 2 meters is gone. After that I mined all the way to the bottom until I wasn't able to go any deeper.
Next step was to start removing copper from below; more or less creating a floating dome.
Eventually I went to the top and started to remove the copper from the sides, again working around in a circle. At some point I would hit the spot where it was "attached" to the rest and the entire vein would explode. After that it was just a matter of picking up the stones and ores, transport all back to my base and smelt it.

Thorin :)

Sometimes it is a invisible tether so to speak, look for the shortest distance ground to it and remove that, it might solve the problem. oh and also the ground can be in the copper so any copper that is touching ground you may have to destroy to even see the earth inside of it, and then remove the earth.

Definitively not enough, yeah. In short, your character must be able to walk around and below the deposit.

You don't get nearly as much as you think you should mining under and around the rock. The copper nodes extend a significant distance into the ground, so mining just the exposed rock typically gives you around 50% of the total, and goes much faster than mining under and around the rock.

My suggestion is to find a place that 3-4 copper rocks nearby, ideally within visual distance. Make a temporary camp and so that you can refine and process at least most of it there so you don't have to haul it. Then just go out and mine all the exposed copper rock.

One more tip: Mining rock goes faster if you're standing on it, so do that if and where you can. You should notice that you have to hit the rock less if you're standing on it.

How long does it take you to mine the exposed portion of a rock? I can do it in about 1/2 day. It shouldn't take you longer than a day if you just concentrate on pounding the rock and not worry about moving the rocks around, etc. When you're finished it doesn't take long to sweep everything up and throw it into a chest / rock piles / haul it to your camp.

Ill try to do that as well, i alway have been making a smelting camp near because how slow it takes, but now the real struggle i bringin the cart home...impossible task, the easiest way it to walk on the islands shores with the hoe levelling the shore... hahah

bts, since im here and installed the game just to try the magic, when do i unlock it after a specific boss or i just have to eat something with the mana thing?

One of the update change how copper nodes are generated, before it was a one big rock, now it is layer under layer with stone (dirt) in between so it is better to just mine the top one than move to the other one... :(

Isn't it more like a geode, and this is more visible on larger deposits? I don't care, I have use for stones as well.

The new style copper deposits are hollow in the middle and filled with earth. They aren't solid through out any more. Its more of a skin of copper over the deposit.

Copper is significantly more difficult to do that way than silver. For Copper, you may just want to grab a troll and have them smash up the copper. May as well use them to gather yourself up some core wood too (drops from PINE)

It didn't fell because it is still attached to surrounding ground, rocks or trees.

You have to figure that the deposit you see on screen is an assembly of models built on invisible cubes. You have to clear materials around those cubes enough, like one meter or a tad more.

This can be impossible to do sometimes, when the deposit reaches the max depth you can dig. In this case, try to access the deposit from below, from another entry point of lower elevation (you can only dig so deep from the original ground level).

Although it is a chore.. you only have to do it twice.. if you mine 2 full copper nodes.. you should have more than enough copper for one play-through. It is definitely the worst metal to farm.
