I don't understand this roof problem...
So i built a large home (its only 2 levels) using a frame.
The roof has been holding for over 100+ hours in game and like 200 in game days. It's always repaired, no issues.
Now for some reason the roof is red and keeps collapsing.
Why?!?!?! Why would it suddenly give way?

Sometimes just a bit of cultivation will lower the ground below a critical block. Try to embed your foundation beams and stones as deep as possible. Is the building already iron based?

^^^ that is normal. It takes a while to compute the stability and decide to fall even on a fast computer, so you have to wait it out.
I don't know what changed, some little something was just that much, but you need to get support back on it. The easiest way if you didn't use iron at all is to do so now, embed a wood-iron pole in the ground inside the walls and go up about 3-4 poles and it should stretch the support upwards enough to fix the issue. This would be on the walls that support that roof area.

Orrr you could just mod out stability mechanics if you don't wanna deal with them.

Hi, Happy here from the VBA (Valheim Builder's Association) pty ltd. Sounds like one of the lower supports has given way or something, maybe a floor piece? did you make any alterations to your structure while building the second level? Did a Grey Dwarf come in & clobber your home? maybe you moved or changed a support pole somewhere?
When building, hover your hammer over the built piece you just placed and watch the colour of the piece change. If it turns red, it needs support of some kind. Recommend using core wood until you unlock the much more sturdy VBA approved iron beams & stone pillars.
maybe a screenshot of what you are building would help find the issue. Good luck either way.

I put down stone floors and dug into the ground a foot maybe. Then I also dug under the home a little to hide my treasure and hide away my excess forge and table upgrades.

digging under existing building may change the viability of roof.. use hammer and "look" at foundations "look" at them all they should progress from blue to green to orange then red as you "look" / get higher up the structure.. whichever piece of roof is collapsing will help you see which corner below it to check!

Thanks for that, and yes I was doing it - which is why it was driving me mad. lol
It's still stable. I filled in the cavity a little under the house, especially around foundations and everything is holding up.
Thanks again everyone

Nice - might be worth placing one or two central core wood or iron support columns to reinforce the roof peak against future events. Direct vertical support is way more forgiving than diagonals in this engine.

I was going to suggest you hoe up around the edges. Glad you got it sorted.
When thinking about something keep it simple. If something suddenly changes consider what you did to change the situation.
If you doubt the game install run a file verify. I just wish we could run a file verify on life.

When you look at the foundation pieces, are they blue or green? Blue means they are attached to the ground, If they are green you may need to place a beam, destroy floor, place beam under beam; personally I use build cam to make this easy.
Do you use any mods? Popular mod Valheim Plus if the "free rotation" part is enabled the hoe will not level to your feet, it doesnt work properly. Destroyed tons of houses until I disabled this part of v+ (it leaves just enough gap under the floor to be not supported by ground)
