Protecting boat houses

How do you protect the open end of a boat house from intruders. I've seen boars , dwarves, necks, etc swimming in to attack the boat. Don't see a solution in even the most elaborate boat houses online.

I copied this partially once and now I do variants of it. I have not once in over 1000 hours of gaming in Valheim lost a single boat because of mobs, or over night stuff.

Wow, beautiful build. Kind of inspired me to make a rotunda again, too.

My only gripe is that I don't like to cut in to the land when I build my docks, I go ahead and build them out over the water. This way, the open end for my ship is further away from shore. A couple campfires at the boats entrance, and nothing bothers swimming all the way out there to get into the boat house.

It can be a little tedious to build it this way... I often use a small raft and slightly submerged temporary scaffolding for construction to get some of the stuff built in deeper water. But I never lose boats to mobs.

So you do that everywhere? I have 10+ boat landings all over the map, seems a bit of overkill haha ;)

And do you fetch/chop wood for each one? Every time you play? As in no console? (I assume no, but then, many don't have the time to build such things every game they play or even once)

==> Now, if you use console, you can just create and destroy rocks or whatever to make your boat safe, or build massive things really quickly. I assumed no console.

No, I don't and I do not understand where you got that inference. In short, you are making things up about what I said.

So with that said, you and I are done here. Take care.

I'm using 2 layers of stone as the base of the house, surrounded by raised earth berms straight out into the water. I'll try extending the berms further out.

For securing harbors put core wood beam walls into the water as far as you can. I didnt had any problems with ships destroyed by MOBS for a very long time.

I raise the ground out into the water where my walls reach the shoreline. My walls can be built on top of that so that I can build my walls well out into the water, keeping the same level. Also, I place work benches inside the walls so nothing spawns around them. I used to have the same problem, but not anymore.

It is annoying and I don't think there is a good solution. I just destroy my boats and rebuild them, I raise/lower terrain to create a shallow area to 'park the boat' in for destruction and no chance of losing materials.

A quick fix by devs would be to change mob AI so that they only attack a boat when you are in it.

I build raised ground outside the structure. Otherwise trolls can reach the structure to smash it.

I had the same problem and my only solution was to break down the boat and keep the mats in the boat house. this has the added benefit of making sure you don't loose the nails if the ship breaks down totally from hitting things while it bobs up and down in the water. It does look nice sitting there tho

I place sharp stakes in a half circle on both sides of the entrance just below the waterline. They definitely work as I see the leftovers from Greydwarves & Necks on the seabed and have to repair the Sharp Stakes from time to time. Since I started doing this I have never had a sailing craft destroyed. I tend to err on the side of caution though. If I am going to be away from my marina with a vessel moored for more than 3 days and will not be onsite to check the condition of the spikes, I will destroy the ship. If I am planning on exploring an island, I will take two 2 star wolves along with me. I will moor my vessel at the tip of a isthmus or offshore island and place the wolves on land beside the ship. I have never had a vessel destroyed yet when employing this strategy.

I usually build a stone wall around my base wich ends at the shore/waterline into wood wall that goes as far into the water as posible. Both ends of the wall should be far enough away from my dock in the middle of both wall ends, like 2 workbench radius, so posible mob spawns are far enough away from the ship to get attracted.

Usually extending far enough out into the water seems to help. And fire

For Raft and Karve sized boat houses, you can use the large double doors but of course this leaves a gap large enough for something to swim in. Solution is to build a single 4' core wood pole midway in the gap.
Of course, when entering or leaving you have to demolish and rebuild the pole along with opening and shutting gates. Not sure if something similar could be worked for longboats?

What I end up doing mostly is build a loading and unloading cargo/repair dock a bit away from any base so it doesn't get attacked in a raid. I then park my ship out to sea as far as I can safely swim, jump off, swim to dock, and go about my business till I need the ship again.

Hopefully someone has a better solution?
