Not to hate on you or anything, but I feel like the early game needs almost no explanation whatsoever. If you don't know how to progress, you weren't paying attention.

Check your logs to see what Hugin said. It's one of the four buttons on the top right when you're in your inventory.

first time playing a game in the survival genre? Try picking up some sticks and stones from the ground. Build yourself a workbench and pick up new materials to have more recipes open up to you

When you open your inventory screen, to the right are some icons you can click on. Click on them and one of them lets you build a hammer. Once you have a hammer, you can build the workbench and other things.

and, to make a fire you just need some wood and stones with a resin or two. At least you can warm up a little.

okay. so the hammer is the core of all building. maybe the game should lead with that.

but okay. now what? i can make a house. but thats it. i cant make any of the other tools bc idk what materials i am missing or where to get them from.

and isnt there like some multiplayer too? i seen some servers but i cant join any. so do plp just play this solo?

Use that hammer to build a workbench and interact with it

Here's a hint on the materials: have you tried killing anything?

The workbench will show you what recipes you can work with and what you need for them. Unlocking new recipes simply requires you to collect new materials ;)

yeah. i killed deer and boar but it takes forever. i cant make a bow yet, bc i need material from hunting (i guess?) that i cant get bc deer keep running away. something about the balance here seems off to me.

Ok to get serios. Your tier 1 building materials are stone, wood, reshin (from monsters or cutting trees) and flint.

You need workbench under a roof to be able to craft a new armor and repair tools.
To be able to sleep you need fire close to your bed. Also note that if fire is inside building, the smoke needs to be vented out.
Its a good idea for starting player to find a pre-made building somewhere in world, fix it and live in it till you upgrade your tools.

To be able to mine stone and smelt, you will have to kill 1.st boss (stone is next to your starting area and it will tell the location).

I wont spoil it more than this, as this game is best played by discovering things yourself.

Look for food, kill stuff if you can, chop trees, bash rocks, pick up anything you can and see if that unlocks a new recipe.
Don't get frustrated ;)
Take a break and if you need pointers on what to do, go watch some playthroughs on Youtube.

So the goal of the game is to beat the 5 bosses because it'll help Odin out basically. To do that, you need.. well a lot, you basically have to build a little settlement for yourself (or yourself and some friends) so that you have room for all the different crafting tables/add-ons . There are technically 9 biomes in the game but 3 of them only spawn towards the edge of the map so it's really just the 5 with bosses associated with them that you need to worry about.

Meadows:

• where you start
  
• usually where you find deer and boar
  
• advance by slaying Eikthyr. A small red runestone in the starting area places the Eikthyr summoning altar on your map. Killing Eikthyr grants you the pickaxe which is needed to mine ore.

Black Forest:

• You will almost always find this biome bordering the meadows that you start in. It's distinguished by taller trees.
  
• Not recommended to explore until you've killed Eikthyr
  
• Look for small hills with a door in the side leading underground into burial chambers. These are where you get the surtling cores that you need to make the smelters for processing ore into metal
  
• Chop down pine trees to get corewood and make a Stagbreaker asap
  
• Hold off on fighting the Elder until you have bronze weapons and the Finewood bow

thats quite alright. i already refunded it. im not gonna play any more of this. it just feels very undone, and clunky and its frustrating.
I cant build the parts where i want them. i cant make the building i designed.
why does the bench need a roof? and why does the bed need a fire?
the bench needs a house and the bed doesnt? i cant place fire on floor, it needs to be ground. so you have a hole in your house. bc the fire needs to be near by.
none of this makes any sense.
and getting materials makes no sense either. for everything i need leather. which idk how to get and the game doesnt tell me, or give me any. i can hunt animals but they dont drop it.
then i get killed by six goblins that spawn next to my house, while i was in building mode.

this isnt fun, man -_-
this isnt a game to Play. this is a game to fight. I dont wanna fight the game. i dont wanna get frustrated.
this just isnt fun.
