The Stamina system is killing the game for me

The awful stamina system is just too exaggerated in this game.
I have finished the game before and returning for Mistlands and i still cant get over how stupid the stamina works in this game. It becomes a game of beating and fighting the stamina bar and not the mobs. My granddad can run longer than my character in this game. And we are supposed to be strong viking warriors here. Its not realistic, just very annoying.
Trying to fight in this game at night in difficult terrain, being wet, constantly out of stamina doesn't feel fun or challenging, just dumb. Cant even run to avoid the blows is just not fun. Makes me wanna ragequit and shout obscenities at the devs. Hey devs, do you even play your own game? Do you know how it plays? Its no fun having to spend one hour just to retrieve your body. Loosing your boat because 3 Wraiths decided to spawn within 2 min. Then building another boat, and dying again and again in the swamp due to stamina issues.
Meh... i'm done with this game. Too much time spent on frustration. and too little on having a good time. Big parts of the game are nothing but a time sink anyways.
Bye...

Sorry is it considered feedback or a letter of I'm leaving the game because it's not what I wanted it to be for a game maybe you should find a better come back

It is feedback because the stamina system does need a balance adjustment. In fact, I don't think it makes the game harder, it just makes it too grindy at the moment. Constantly walking around kiting enemies is more boring than if they just found a better balance.

Yup lemme just plonk down my instant shelter while this 2 star seeker is after me.
Or my trusty inventory-hogging portal.

The game shouldnt be *unplayable* without rested buff. Stamina needs a bit of tweaking.

Also my god yes the food degradation mechanic is meant to help let you down easier so you dont just bork down from 200+ hp to 25 when youre food all runs out.. but yeesh. The rate of decay is brutal, and is way too punishing. Having to re-eat your food at 50% of its timer sucks.

Yes, telling them you've played through the game as it stands currently and found the system so disappointing you don't want to do it again is feedback. I don't care in the least if it satisfies your need for a 'comeback'.

Up until Mistlands the stamina was manageable. I was in many fights where I had to disengage and regen stamina then fight some more.

But in Mistlands if you need stamina in battle, chances are you can't run and regen because you need stamina to get up sloping ground or you run into more enemies you couldn't see. And of course all the wasted attacks that don't land because an enemy is slight above or below you on a slope. Even with stamina pots it is painful to play...

I feel exactly the same. Thats why I'm so grateful for valheim+. I will always shill for that mod here since it can fix EVERY single issue there is. Not that you should change everything. But some stamina and food values. Yeah ! The game gets 100% more fun when you can actually jump without using stamina. Deleting that awful food buff degrading mechanic etc.

Nobody give devs the idea to add that to rested buff as well.

To this day I have no idea what they hoped for that mechanic to do. Are we intended to be eating food every handful of minutes to keep it at max? Do they just want our hp and stamina to fluctuate up and down for... reasons? It's mystifying.

Good point, they need this kind of feedback.

I really like having to manage stamina, it does add positively to game play. It definitely needs some tweaks and balances. Right now it's more frustrating than fun.

Two simple rules will likely solve most of your problems:

1) Don't be out at night

2) Always have a rested buff

There's a timer in the upper right for rested buff, so that's easy to track. It works just as well to know when night is coming if you have an idea around when you last rested.

Just carry a portal with you, and, when the timer gets low, plot it down, sleep, eat, and start your new day.

If you are like me and don't use portals, just carry a stack of wood, and build a basic shack anywhere it about a minuted that you can sleep in and get 11 minutes of rested buff.

Stamina systems are hit and miss. Better stamina mod lets you configure it to be better, so you dont take two swings at a draugr then pant like a fat kid. It also removes the stamina cost for building/hoe'ing. Passiveforsakenpowers does exactly what it sounds like, though i highly reccomend not using the damage shield ones. So you can reduce running and jumping to a reasonable stamina consumption, especially in the mts and mistlands. A support of the mod on the nexus released a fix for it recently, since the mistlands update changed how the software listed the powers.

I feel the same. Any fight that isnt you just merking a mob thats in your way becomes you fighting the stamina bar more than the enemies and the terrain.

As for positive feedback; I think a good fix would be to increase the base regen rate, or get rid of/shorten the 'cooldown' before stamina regnerates after an action.

Another route would be to increase the effectiveness of skill level on stamina consumption. Having 50/75/100 run/jump should drastically reduce the amount of stam drain for those activities.

I would also suggest that, since they added the block meter, blocking taking stamina as well as filling the block meter is a poor system. ESPECIALLY since the block meter is tied to your HP foods, while still requiring stamina. The tangled relationship between HPs, Block meter, stamina use, and that all being tied to opposing food choices just needs to be re-thought.

Everyone commenting needs to remember; you NEED to be able to fail and die. The stamina system is there so you cant just block forever or leap over enemies indefinitely. You need to be able to make tactical mistakes and get taken down for it. But the current system is a bit too restrictive, too irritating, especially for non-combat related activities like building, and fighting in vastly vertical terrain.

Yeah, I forget when but there was a change a while back after which long fights have always just become me kiting mobs around in circles to regen stamina, then fight, then regen, then fight. Just dreck. This isn't what challenging combat should look like.
