Smoke dissipation, no chimney

So was playing around starting on the new kitchen and came out with this method to trap smoke without having that annoying blow through on the next floor. Anyone else use this method? Pretty simple build.

Double skin the ceiling with half brick gap to absorb all smoke on upper floor. Given space used, fire never goes out, and I don't get smoke damage, despite very thick smoke.

Is there an easy technique for snapping a vertical half brick gap? Something with core wood beams?

If you put in a temporary shallow crossbeam, you can snap to the middle of the cross. Then use whatever other pieces get the half height offset back to where you want it.

I like building see-through chimneys with the wood crosses Seeing the smoke move adds a bit of ambiance. Firespark81 had a youtube that addressed some of the smoke mechanics.

In between writing about quantum cryptography, had some time to put the kitchen into a working state. Needs a bit more work to finish off though.

Ah good to see others using, the key with a double wooden floor though is that it stops the smoke coming through the floor above it in much the same way as stone square. Smoke dissipation by voids behind walls is a different technique, and I like the smelter idea above.

I put in a double floor as the adze feet stick through a single wood floor was ugly.

Hmmm.... I'll have to try this. It's a fascinating look at modern ceiling making in the real world - I originally thought that gap was just to run electrical wires and pipes, but now I see another function for it.

Same here... been using this method since just after the game came to steam.

The Elder altar is my default, "main" base- building spot because it is completely safe from all events without the need for earth walls or moats around the altar.... the "roof: (altar) is 100% indestructible.
