Not looking to leech, but I am going to. lol. If anybody is willing to help me tomorrow after dinner time beat the elder that would be much appreciated. I am in the same boat as op, I keep dying. I am using fire arrows and troll suit but I can only seem to get the ellder health down to 75%.

make finewood bow and upgrade it twice 100 fire arrows, use trees and rocks to take cover from vine attacks. I Like to take mine near copper rocks and rocks as it vines will break them easy copper pickups without mining.

Easiest way is just dig a ditch between the Elder and you. Then just pluck away at him with a bow.

does the underground attacks still work?

its easy fight. Use the poles to break line of sight when he shoots vines at you. When he raises roots run to the other side. Use bow, shoot from behind the poles

Upgrade your armor as much as possible. I missed this first time I played made me life so much harder.

If you stand right up next to him he won't shoot vines. Just use dodge i-frames to avoid stomps, and walk away behind a pillar to regen stamina when needed.
