As I understand it those commands only reveal the map, they don't actually generate the local terrain until you actually go to those areas. so unless you have been sailing all over the map you might be fine.

The thing to remember is that the game generates terrain out to 500 meters from you as you explore, so even areas you have not actually been into yet are locked.

if you use mods you could try

it resets your world beck to the unexplored state so the game regens the terrain using the new content. The mod also lets you exculde areas so your basses or areas you like don't get erased. Be sure to make backups before using

Well you actually have to click on it and read a lil bit. It's for example in the most recent blog post in the news tab here.

There is also a nice picture of one of these caves signaling the start of them writing about it.

What you should worry more about is mistlands and the spawn place being reset.

Nope , character saves its separate from seeds/worlds

On a server with almost 2000 days logged and likely 20% of the total map opened. We'd considered a reset but the amount of construction we'd lose far outweighs the easy access to new dungeons for us. Hoping there's still plenty of good mountain to be found and explored for looting.

resetmap does not effect markers.
(At least not in the tests I did be aware there may be bugs floating that might)

I'm pretty sure the devs said it would work on existing maps if you haven't explored the area. I would reset the map before the update. That would probably be your best option if you don't want to start a new one.

ok thanks. I was wondering if my markers etc stayed on though. Have you used reser map before?

Pretty sure you’d still have to physically visit an area , just removing the fog with commands should not preclude an area from receiving caves.
