Swamp is an awful part of this game.
Everything in the swamp is way too overpowered for that stage of the game. After reading the forums here, it seems that everyone quits at that point in the game because if you die once, you legit cant get your crap back. Swamp needs an overhaul and a nerf. Legit made me hate this game. Garbage.

No it does not need a nerf nor an overhaul. Those that quit after reaching the swamps is what i would call 'natural selection' meaning they couldn't hack it anyways. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the swamps. I've died a couple times early on and managed to recover my corpse every single time.
There is nothing overpowered in the swamps, this includes the Abomination. You think swamps in Valheim sucks? I strongly, STRONGLY suggest you NEVER play any dark souls game.

I have to disagree with you. I like the swamp. Yea the wet debuff stinks and getting poisoned when not prepared does as well but if you take the time to upgrade your armor(I prefer troll over bronze) and eat the appropriate food its not so bad. Draugrs are slow and dumb, leeches can be killed with stagbreaker easily, same with blobs. Use the poison resist and they barely dent you. Wraiths are awesome to see, well at least to me. Once found turnips let you make great food especially the sausages. Aboms are east to kill if you lure it out into a meadows and arrow it down (my way) or as others said take it to a surtling fire speaking of which surtlings are a joke and a great source of cube and coal. However YMMV.

The swamp, other than being creepy as, is just another challenge of the game. The black forest is a challenge once you reach that level (trolls sneaking up on you makes you jump and run lol). You get over the scare factor of the swamp pretty quickly, though those wrath's are awful when they spook ya :D
Sure you die in the swamp, just like you die any where in the game. Stinks when its in a hard to reach spot and you have to remake everything again but its all a challenge. Think the swamp is bad, wait till you first step into the plains :D

Swamps are both "hard" and "easy".\
"Easy" if you are prepared.
"Hard" if you are un-prepared, go at night, or delve too deep and too greedily.
And NO - Swamps do NOT need a nerf.

Swamps are not bad if you take it slow. Listen for the sound of draugr growls and the sound of buzzing flies. Draugr start to come after you slow, and then run when they get closer, so don't take them for granted. Pick them off with a bow while they're still in slow mode. Flies mean there's a spawner nearby. Those are usually either in small stone circles, or in stone ruins.
Skellies and blobs are vulnerable to blunt. Keep a shield on you for archers. Use the hoe, level ground, to create paths that are safe from leeches and provide a quick getaway.
Always, always, have poison resist on you and keep it up. Use it, as well as your rested buff, as timers to make sure you're out of there by nightfall, since it's not easy to tell the time of day in there. I almost never see wraiths because I don't wander around out there at night.
It's not hard to run away from abominations especially if you've been making paths. They seem to lose interest quickly. If you have a nearby crypt prepared with ladders, or if you have a high jump skill, get up there and they can't do anything to you.
Boats are just a bad idea. Try to find a swamp with a forest or meadows nearby so you can park in relative safety and walk in. Most of the swamp horror stories I've seen involve boats. If the swamp you're looking at is not ideal, keep looking. The world is big.

I think swamp isn't awful, but people want to leave the forest because they have been there for so long. I am most likely strong enough to go to swamp but I have to travel far to the boss and it just seems like a hassle and not fun. Too much tree chopping and mining and not enough troll killing and boss fighting for me. The progression is just ultra slow and uneventful. I think the people who like mining and grinding materials and building large bases mainly like this game. People who want to mainly go out and explore will have some fun but it will be a slow process.
Did you know if you have a fully upgraded bronze set (every bronze item) you are carrying 10.5k weight units worth of copper and tin bars? I would hate to lose that!
The game seems much too grindy to be fun. If you fill a karve up with a stack of tin and 2 stacks of copper you can't even make a single fully upgraded sword. You basically get 1/3 for no reason while every other ore is normal 1:1. Seems like a very bad oversight.
I might keep playing but this game is losing my interest quickly. Hopefully when I do the 2nd boss and explore the swamp it will hype me up again.

It's a recurring theme in the game, that when you go to a new biome you are underpowered at first. Then you have to gather resources from that biome (while at a disadvantage the entire time) in order to make better stronger gear.
Whole game repeats that loop, over and over, with each biome. You just need to learn how to be careful when you make that transition. Play defensively for a while. Build mini-forts and safe areas to run back too. Be prepared to run like a chicken. At least you'll be a live chicken.
In one section of swamp, I built raised walkways all the way through the swamp, with nice lighted areas. I built mini-shacks directly on top of crypts, with portals inside. I fenced off the front of the crypts, and stairs leading down from the shacks.
When I was done, that swamp area was like disneyland. I turned that whole place into a resource machine. Crank the handle, out comes sausage skins from draugr, goo from the blobs, turnip seeds, leech blood, surtling cores, etc.

Why are you filling a karve up with copper and tin? Theres enough of that stuff in the start island? Use a karve for travel to an island with a swamp, set up portal, go get 10 iron scrap, sail back to process into iron, turn into nails and now you can make a longboat to carry heaps of ore, iron nails can teleport so you can build the long boat back at the swamp easy peasy now. Hope this hastens your ore gathering process. I think swamp isn't awful, but people want to leave the forest because they have been there for so long. Typically, what happens is people just dont take it slow and patiently in the swamp. That's usually what kills them.
1. The hoe is one of the best things in the swamp, slowly level or raise the ground to make paths.
2. Mark the paths with camp fires even while wet they'll have white smoke like flares to help guide you. Also when the wood burns out the red ember coloring helps keep the path marked too.
3. In conjunction with 2, mark paths on your map with the circle icons and red x them out to help you differentiate.
4. Make paths to the crypts of course. On the top of the crypt's top level, put against the small raised edge at the top a Workbench. Put on the raised edge 2-3 wood walls and 2-3 roofs. Lastly put 1-2 wooden chests next to/under the workbench. You can jump to the top of the crypt from the lower back side of them.
5. Unlock the crypt and set down a campfire at the starting ledge and fill up the wood in it.
6. Do all these things during the day and never at night. If you're in a crypt and finish it and its night. Wait it out til day.
7. From the top of the crypt where you got your bench, abominations and non ranged creatures can't hit you. Even blobs cant jump up to attack you. Thus a bow with plenty of fire arrows is your best friend.
8. Until you kill enough abominations to make your root helmet, always keep a poison potion on you in the swamp and in the crypts.
9. Make a small base outside of the swamp. Not too close as to catch aggro from swamp denizens but close enough to your path into the swamp as to make it easier.
10. Alternatively, find a close grouping of the large indestructible trees. Raise the ground around the trees to make a wall with your entrance being where hopefully 2 trees have a small overlap(ie so you jump slightly to get in but draugr/skels cant get in. I recommend doing this only after you create the stone cutter table so you can thing about using stone to roof off the top of the grouping of trees but you could go wood. Just make the roof high enough so that smelters etc's smoke dissipates but still closed in.
11. While in the crypts, pickaxe only 1 side or so of a mudpile so that if the next room has baddies, you can either range them with your bow or use your stag 2h hammer(later the iron one is better) to aoe through the mud to creatures inside. This makes crypts very easy.
12. When you find a surtling fire spawn, dig out the ground around the fire at about 1 foundation out so that there is a watery ring 1 foundation wide or so around it. Surts will spawn hit the water and instantly die. Thus you'll have a coal/core farm from there. Mark them thus of course on your map.
13. When you see stone groupings or towers, range then to take out the spawners. This will cut down significantly on spawns in your swamp travels. If its too much/many, running and shooting is your friend and why making paths to everything as suggested in point 1 becomes much easier.
14. Since you made paths in point 1, leeches will never be a problem and easy to shoot from your paths.
15. An alternative method for killing abominations is keeping mats for a bonfire on you at all times and placing it down in front of you when it gets near you.
16. As you clear a crypt, put your iron scraps in the chests on the crypt along with other things you collected. Once the crypt is completely cleared, you can then make trips to drop it off at your smelting base from there.
Yes, all this takes considerable time to do but you'll make the swamp much easier to manage. I could go on but I hope it can give you some ideas on how to handle things with the swamps and not be discouraged.
