Well you could just fly a plane into it and trigger the demolition explosives.

Once in an iron crypt and you figure out how it works it is actually one of the safer things to mine.

Yep - I just built a little workbench outside with a portal and a couple of chests. You can easily then work your way through the whole crypt (even solo) - brining the iron back out to the chests and repairing your pickaxe at the work bench.

If you only mine out half the doorway you can just shoot the enemies on the other side. (Esp blobs - they die to fire arrows and their poison is annoying).

The only time you need to get into the room is when there's a draugr spawner there....... and draugur are not that hard IMO (although you have to watch out for the archers). I find it pretty easy to slaughter the draugr melee guys using parries and I'm still rocking a bronze mace/buckler and troll armor.

There are iron deposits in the swamps, they're just underground.
If you equip the wishing bone it will guide you to the deposit locations, similar to silver in the mountains.

Whiny gamer is bored with his min/max strategy... nothing to see here. With luck he'll just move on.

Swords are amazing but you gotta have max hp to enable parrying or get comfortable with the dodge controls.

Adding recipes for higher tier bucklers would also help.

Iron can be gathered from oozers & occasional scrap piles, (search the steeper edges of swamp biomes) it won't be much but you can find enough to unlock some major base upgrades.

You can find iron deposits at the foot of certain ancient trees in the swamps. I've tumbled upon one by accident, while digging a surtling pit.
So I've searched at the base of many trees and found just enough iron to make an axe.

beats the hell outta dungeon raiding for like 2 hours ill check but still to be able to stay still long enough let alone mine opens me up to a bum rush of literally all the biomes monsters at once i wish i was joking

Our approach to gathering iron was to bypass the swamps, raid the mountains wearing lox capes using stagbreaker to find deposits, and return with full silver gear. Turns out undead don't appreciate that. Some swamps are just wall to wall spawn points, others are pretty chill - in general I've found narrow strips to be the nightmare zones.

From what I saw someone else mention a few days ago, they used to have actual iron veins a while back til the devs decided to shift to scrap iron. Only thing I can assume is they wanted to add another grind gate to slow progress til they get more content added.

Honestly I think it is a good change.
After all that copper and tin it is nice to be inside digging through muck.. and all that makes me appreciate being out on the mountains.

I think it is great how they mix up the resource gathering into slightly different things... would you rather have black metal deposits you had to mine in the plains?

Clear the sunken crypt of enemies and haul Iron to your hearts content.
