Always have portals ready to put down in a safe spot before you take on a boss, and of course where ever you land your ship. Always.

Digging a cave is brilliant idea, think i've seen that tactic on youtube.
But we gotta get bk there now to our tombstones for all our stuff ... thats gonna be the hard part !! I think we kinda went steaming in thinking it was gonna be easy to kill him, obviously not expecting the troll there as well !! Wish me luck lol !!!

You want a Level 3 finewood bow and fire arrows, or you risk the bow breaking.

Chow down on veggies and make proper kettle meals if you can scrounge up the tin. Stamina is your friend here when Kiting.

I can't take credit :). The idea is in a youtube video, but it dates back aways to when his AOE wouldn't hit in the cave at all. Now it does somewhat and you have to work around it a little. After I killed him I came back later in the iron age with a stone cutter, dug out the rest of the space under the altar, lined it with blocks and made a door, and turned it into a portal hub.

The worst Elder spawn I ever got was current random seed world am playing in now. His marker led me to island with Black Forest spawn where Elder is...but...the forest is surrounded by Plains.

Literally as in the beach where you land is all plains, travel inward to center and there is the forest with Elder. Had to just sprint and run after getting 1-shot a few times trying to make it normally.

I solo-weaksauced him by digging a cave under the altar, summoning him and jumping down into it. He'd stand on the edge of the cave to fire his aoe which would hit the floor of the cave but only around the entrance hole. After that I would run out, put a couple fire arrows in him, and run back into the cave. Took a bit but it worked like a charm.

I just killed Elder recently (solo) and got kinda lucky.

Dancing behind the stone pillars to avoid its ranged attack (running to another pillar if vine whips got too close), he got kinda.. stuck.. on one and just stood there doing nothing so I could snipe it with Fire Arrows at my leisure.

Despite that, it had quite a lot of health.. I was surprised at how long it took despite being able to freely empty my ~110 Stamina with Bow shots.

it is possible to find a troll nearby when killing elder
he is in the black forest where trolls live

his aoe and vines will kill skelles and greys, no real worry about them during the fight
just keep lots of stamina and health and regen foods ready

I lucked out solo when I fought elder, I had a troll cave near by that as empty. and when I needed stam or health I could jump inside and do that. when I came out, I stood close to entrance and fired my arrows. His long branches that shoot out, most didnt hot me as I had the walls/roof of the bunker/cave to protect me.

Even with the greys coming at me, his branches agro'd them most times before they hit me the first time. yeah it may have been cheap, but I am not about taking advantage of my surroundings. I did die 4-5 times fighting him solo until I found this golden nugget.

I know when I fight the 3rd boss. I am going to scout the area for anything like this I can use for my advantage.

Trolls no. They were probaly in close area when you started a boss and the sound aggroed them.

Its a good idea to clear the area araund you, before you engage the boss (and also fight at day).

Also a tip:
Try to find a stone structure near a boss summon (but not to close) and put in a portal from your base to boss in case you need to corpse run.

Wow! yeh we should of done that ... portal lol !! I think we buggered now.

It was day time when we summoned and also killed a fair few skeletons/ greylings before hand but clearly not enough.

When you do any boss start first thing in the morning so you are not fighting at night when many harder enemies can spawn and join the fight.

Before you start the fight, scout around the area and look for and take out troll or other skeletons and greylings that may hear the noise and come running. you can place a few workbenches around to stop any enemies from spawning in, but be careful - if you have 3 or more base items in an area where you are (like 3 workbenches, or workbench, portal, fire pit) you can trigger a raid, The Forest is Moving , where you will have way too many things to fight in a open area around the Elder alter.

Thanks for advise guys ... i should of asked before maybe. We now have to go bk and get our stuff ... which i reckon is gonna be near on impossible now lol.
