Creatures in general don't have fixed spawn points, they can pop up anywhere you can't directly see.

After I learned to sail, I discovered the white arrow at the bottom left of the map which helps when the wind is in the wrong direction (time to use the rudder as an oar). The white arrow on the map still shows the wind direction even when there is no water in sight. If the wind is blowing from the Troll toward me, I can get really close to him to take him down. If the wind blows from me toward the Troll, it's time to get out of there in a big hurry.

They like to stop and crouch down to eat the blueberries when they path over them , probably why they are blue... Ever notice if you find a bunch of blueberries there is usually a trolls spawn nearby? Still not sure about the pink and green trolls though. And why can't I have pink troll hide leather? upsets me.

Another thing, they seem to be able to smell you.

I've been in sneak mode at level 35 and behind a rock. The troll wandered near and suddenly I see his nose twitch a few times and he came right for me. Seen this several times.

The nose twitch is very granular

I've been chased by a troll for a long time, and when it eventually gave up it continued to wander around where it lost me, didn't go back to it's original area

Oh u baited , this ain't a dumb question lol. As far as I know they should return to where they spawn if they have travelled a far enough distance, but they also might despawn, don't worry there will be more

The game is just like the forums. Despite everyone's best efforts Trolls keep respawning.

Also, they do not despawn. When exploring the black forest early game, place a marker on the map for every troll and troll cave you find. Easy Troll leather when you are going to farm for it. I pinged every one of them, and like 12 hours later every single one of them was still there. They might have moved 50 meters away from the general location but they will be around. The only ones which despawn, are the ones spawned in by the "the ground is shaking" event. They will just pop out of existence right in front .

My impression is they wander around their spawn point in a circle of a certain maximum radius. If you don't see it, be careful as it's in the vicinity and can surprise you.

Also they do hang around the caves (not always), unless you have kill the Troll inside. Than they stop showing up in the area around it.

They respawn inside, i have felt it. Was exploring a troll cave once after realizing there are some treasures like amber, pearls and rubies in there so i went back. Only while being in the back there it respawned on my face and smacked me around a few times before i barely made it out alive.
