I'm just getting to a point where I'm having to take the raids seriously. Found out the hard way how bad they can hose you. I'm going to go on a planting kick and set aside a BIG stash of seeds of all kinds as a reserve.

My group uses a trench, followed by a steep embankment with a layer of stone wall and a layer of palisade, plus we keep wolves both inside and outside the base. This has been effective through Mountains. The physical barriers of the embankment and trench are the most useful, because they prevent the mobs from pathing correctly.

Also helps to keep spares. I have an isolated pig farm with wolves in case all die at main base. We keep backup seeds as well.

I was furious when a Ground Shaking event came up and I had to fent off 2 trolls, with only 1 pallisade wall around and they ended up dmging our house... I spend the next couple o' days (my gf was amazed and worried at the same time lol) building insane fortifications, diging as deep as possible and 4 meter wide, 2-3 walls high walls, 1 inner ring and 1 outer ring (expanded our area, burried workbenches around my outer trench and of course ladders and a 1m floor wide all around my outer ring wall, 2 roads leading to our west harbor and 1 to east harbor, each their own insane trench and walling (also workbenching). ALL BECAUSE A FREAKING TROLL DAMAGED OUR HOUSE AND SPECIFICALLY THE LABELED ENTRANCE MY GIRLFRIEND MADE!
Lesson learned, trust your insanity and extreme cautiousness, it will keep you and your loved ones safe lol
P.S. I reinforced those walls later with stone ones from the inside and I also created large pens for our pigs and wolves with stone and core wood, which are roofed and safe from even dragons.
