I'm Totally FINE With The Metal VS. Portal Setup...
...Until I go to FOUR different mountain ranges after searching SIX continents over the course of EIGHT days (real life) with my wishbone only to find ONE silver deposit.
... And then realize I have to A) sail my happy toucas ALL the way back with it, and B) I'm gonna have to sail ALL the way back with the rest... IF I EVER FIND ANY MORE.
Really, truly, this is the first time I've found the mechanic just UNACCEPTABLE. It's felt just FINE up 'til now, and I still think it IS fine when THIS isn't going on. Maybe not being able to magic the metal around until you've found "The DOO-DAD of Uber" or whatever, just some mid-late game mcguffin? Or maybe a boss item that addresses it somehow? Or maybe don't allow a world seed to generate quite THAT crappy of material rates?
I guess the REAL answer is that I'm just going to have to start another world on a hopefully NOT borked seed if I don't want to deal with this BS scarcity. Which is fine, I guess, not IDEAL... But FINE. Honestly, the whole mess has just really taken the wind out of my sails to play anymore. Kinda stinks.
(I know there are some topics about this already, but they all seem to be so black and white. Just one side shout/typing "ALL THE YES, F- YOU IF YOU DON'T AGREE!", and the other side shout/typing "ALL THE NO, F- YOU IF YOU DON'T AGREE!" Feels like there's some middle ground to be found that's just not getting seen for all the monster shouters.)

yep the game isnt easy, once you play it a while you will get the hang of it.
Also you can make Portals to the Mine site then you can bring S. Cores and Stone to your Mine site and make a Kiln and Forge and make your armor/weapons and tools there

It is frustrating exploring mountains without getting a ping. Mistakes were made, people died. Some of my group didn't last because of that. I liked the adventure. We searched 3 mountains without luck until I told them we should go further away from spawn.

You can even set up a world at a borked seed, set up a small base with lots of chests - or carts if you prefer those - as storage, mine the resources in your "good seed", log out, log in at the borked seed, unload all ores in your storages until those are full; head to your main base in your good seed, log out, load all ores from the borked one and repeat that until you got what you need.
Some would consider it cheating, others would consider it as bending the game abilities to the max. No matter how you think of it, it is a method that can be used. Albeit a bit time consuming.

Cut the trave time by setting up portals. Set up a small base, a few chests, fill them with ore, portal to your boat location, sail and collect ore, sail back. Rinse and repeat. If you are feeling ambitious, and can get a good location, set up a smelting station too, process it on site. upgrade the forge and bench to make use of the ore. Its not as painful as it sounds. I have a seed where 3, sometime 4 biomes are right next to each other. I have a main base in one of the locations, and can get all the ore I need. RNG favoured me that day!

You contradict yourself.
On one hand you say, you were fine with it before silver, many people need to visit 5, even 10 swamps before finding any cripts.
On the other hand it took you just 4 mountains to find silver, and suddenly its bad mechanic?
I played on 3 seeds 1 had silver on the first mountain, one only had 1 vein at the 4rth, 5th had a bunch of veins though...
Or you say, its fine only as long as rngesus loves you?
Also how did it take you 8 days real life to search just 4 mountains?
You find mountains from water and it takes like 40 minutes to sail to the edge of the world in any direction...

I saw a stream with mod that allows teleport of ores ones.
It was kinda sad. You just pickaxe untill it breaks, build portal on top of the crypt or whatever and portal back, repair and go back digging...
Sailing is atleast so distraction, might run into sea serpent or turtle if check a new route. It makes the game more fun, else its literally just grind for mats and unpolished combat :/
You don't even need much silver. 1 full 16 slot boat should suffice for whatever you may need, as a singular person in terms of silver. You don't have to establish a trade route or whatever to transport this.

It's that the devs have put a nail in the topic by saying "no teleporting ore" by their design.

Bad seed or luck...I had one mountain top give 5-6 or more silver deposits.

I play the game as intended. Same seed no hopping. I like that some things come easy and others are challenging. For me iron took some time to finding that motherboard. Silver was super easy and was my easiest challenge so far. We are a long ways away from a finished product with many updates in the future. Very excited to see and experience this journey. It is not a race for me but can be for you that is what makes Valheim so great.

There's nothing critically thought out about allowing ore/ingots through portals. We get it, dude, you think Iron Gate is a flop because they don't cater and bend over backwards anytime a vocal minority whines about non-issue.
You have every tool you need to bring ore/ingots through portals but you'd rather cry about it on the forums.

Just about every swamp I go to have 3-5 crypts. They're all pretty close to each other as well. Is silver this hard to find? Or is OP giving a worse case scenario?
