i have not found him yet and pretty much all of map is open is that good? and when u kill the deer and troll and the others do they respawn after u put their trophy on the rocks

You can summon and kill the bosses as many times as you like, and they'll always drop the same rewards + a trophy. If you see screenshots of people with boss trophies in their bases this is why/how.

i think once u kill them though they should not be allowed to come back

I believe it's both.

I read somewhere its within 2km of your position. You can be in a boat and have the icon appear on your map inside the fog of war (undiscovered area). When I found it, my friend called it out as he saw it on the main map. I didn't see it on my minimap, so it was that far away.

EDIT: When you're looking for the trader, bring materials for a portal with you (and have a portal at your base on standby)

Indeed its a large white sack on the map, you will find in a black forest
What I did once I found him in several seeds craft a portal to him give it a name or number so you craft another portal at your home and return to him when needed to sell or buy more fish bait etc.

You start with 10 possible locations for the trader. The one you find first becomes it.
Out of those ten I would guess it is probably split between right on the shore. Inland some, or only find by going inland on foot. I have encountered all of these situations in different worlds.. I have even had worlds I never found the trader in... probably due to many of the possible locations being far enough inland to not find by sailing. Not like I checked every inch of the world though.

I found him on a different seed using a guide with a seed and used him until I found the one screenshot, if you look closely my yellow mouse icon is quite away from him. It was per chance I found in that black forest.
There is the world map generator put your seed in tick the trader and see if it shows where it is in your map seed
