Is there a way to get multiplayer to work offline?
My family of four was playing together on my LAN when the internet provider went down. Our game was instantly disconnected - which doesn't make any sense since we're using a dedicated server on a fifth computer in the same room. I tried everything I could think of to get our session back up but I had no luck. After an hour of changing settings and standing on my head we all tried playing solo in our own worlds, but quit 30 minutes in because it just wasn't as much fun.
Frustration aside, is there any way to play Valheim in multiplayer when we can't connect to the internet? The server kept giving me the error message "game server connected failed". I tried several variations of running my local world so my family members could join but we couldn't figure out how to connect. I got on my phone (which still had internet) and downloaded the goldberg steam emulator but I must not have done it right, because even though the "connected failed" error went away, no one could join the server.
Is there a way to do this or should we plan on playing minecraft whenever the internet goes down?

How often does your internet go down that this is a huge concern? Frustrating I'm sure but how often can that possibly be happening?

The game probably requires a pass through from steam login to auth the players and server. ie you need an internet connection.. however, it might be possible to setup using the file directly..dunno, not tried using it on lan.
It is odd you get disco'd if steam goes down.. or do you literally mean your isp? Could try running steam in offline mode.. see if you can get it to connect to lan.. if it doesn't.. you'll need steam to be online.

@Danson,
We have pretty good service when it's up, but we live on the border of the suburbs and the boonies. I call our neighborhood semi-rural. Pretty much every time there's a thunderstorm Spectrum internet goes down. It usually only takes them an hour or two to get it back up but it's pretty frequent. This time it was down for 14 hours.

Isn't there option to connect via ip?
Try writing the local ip of the server,
Might need to open/forward some ports

Yeh sounds like you have old transformers up on telegraph poles still.. lightning hits it or nearby and it breaks everything for miles. Need to tell your providers to put stuff in the ground.. alot better. easier to repair too.. no ladders needed.

It was literally the ISP. Steam was still up because I could get my server running by tethering it to my phone, I just couldn't get five computers tethered to my phone. I tried running the server in offline mode through the steam interface (even though the server logs in anonymously) but it still failed with that same error. I also tried running my local game in offline mode but we couldn't figure out how to connect - my game doesn't show up on the LAN and using my IP address didn't seem to produce any results. Good suggestion though.

We normally connect to my local server via IP, but it ignored our request. I'm guessing due to that error message "game server connected failed". I already have the ports open on my firewall even though we play internally. I opened them up so a coworker of mine could join my game. Isn't there option to connect via ip?

I feel your pain. I have spectrum as well and it's the worst service I ever had. Pretty much every time there's a thunderstorm Spectrum internet goes down.

Hahaha I'll get right on that! I wish they would put it underground but I see them in the area all the time climbing telephone poles! Yeh I'm fairly sure it requires a login through either steams system or via a specific database to net all the players together. Maybe in time they'll make a proper offline lan mode.. or a modder might do it faster..

I thought Comcast was bad, but they got pretty good the last few years I lived in their area. Last summer we moved to a Spectrum area and I feel like I've gone back ten years in time.

Yeh you'd think a country that has tornados etc.. would put all their stuff underground.. but then.. you also get earthquakes alot.. so kinda catch 22 init. Most of our stuff here in the uk is piped now, under the roads etc. Only power is in the air.. for helicopters to hit etc.Hahaha I'll get right on that! I think you're right, which is a bummer. I think my scenario is too a minority scenario that no one is going to take a big interest in fixing. I was just hoping there was a button I needed to click somewhere. Yeh I'm fairly sure it requires a login through either steams system or via a specific database to net all the players together. I feel you. I recently moved as well and got stuck with spectrum. Before the move I had Verizon FIOS for years with no outages. Problem is where I live now Verizon has to subcontract their FIOS to a small company due to some laws. So I can get the superior service, but with a small company running it, any outages can take days to weeks going by the reviews. I feel like the turd in a turd sandwich.I feel your pain. Funny you should mention that. I live in Tornado alley now, and used to live on the Earthquake coast. And I agree. I can't understand why everything is in the air instead of buried.
