Air raid mechanics

I have had bats and drakes show up inside my house during raids (it is a tall house). Did they actually spawn in there? Do flyers ignore the usual spawn suppression? I put a workbench up in the roof to see if it makes any difference. Anyone got info on this?

If they can fit through a 1x1 space, that would explain it. First time I got the cold wind event I ran outside to take the fight away from breakables and saw a drake flying around inside my bedroom. Will try plugging gaps and see what happens. Chimney is so tall I can seal the top, smoke despawns before it gets that high.

I noticed during ground based raids that inbound mobs "know" if they have an open path to me. Shutting a door can make them suddenly switch from homing in to attacking the nearest base structure. Will see if the flyers also behave that way.

It used to be that flying spawns were calculated at ground level and just spawned in the air, so workbenches at ground level would exclude them. I have no reason to believe that has changed, though I suppose it could have.

If you have so much as a 1x1 unfilled window space (or even just a functioning chimney that actually vents to the outside), they're going to get in during a raid.

Spawn suppression inside a base is less useful against raids than regular random spawns, since the raid critters spawn from the outer reaches of the raid zone. They'll also quickly get inside if there is an opportunity because they enter the world both aggroed and knowing where you are and will do their best (bar getting distracted by more visible/accessible secondary targets) to make their way there.

Generally agree, but not fully. The spawn radius for a raid is 96m from center (red circle on map only shows 64m radius). If you pepper the area enough with base structures (or build on an island), spawning can be made completely impossible for raids.
