My clan of casual players (basically just weekend vikings) finally finished the game. TBH, we'd have finished it a lot sooner, only no one could locate a trace of where the last boss was. Then one day, one of my mates found a locater so close to the swamp boss spawn that we hadn't even bothered to look. By the next weekend, forces converged, and the last boss was history.... actually, the last boss didn't really represent much of a challenge. We fought him twice in a row, and then rushed back to what we call "Stonehenge," to hang up the trophy. And then waited. Nothing. We could use a little magic in there, devs. Something epic. So we did what we usually do, switched to pvp and tired killing each other... not that easy when you're all endgame. It's the first game we have finished as a clan in a long time, so there was kinda an epic feel, but at the same time, it was a bit of a let-down. You know, like when you were a kid and you finished the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and realized there was nothing to take its place.

There's a lot that needs adjustment, of course. Personally, I think server owners need a way to set world size. There's a lot of things that need balance (nothing's ever perfect), such as berry and thistle respawn rates, stone strength and height limitations, THE FISHING ROD. EVERYTHING MP server related. Optimization. But. Compared to the 99/100 games out there that are absolute garbage, or go nowhere, or spend forever getting anything done, this one remains a classic. I'm glad I bought it, I've recommended the heck out of it, and I'll continue to do so, because it represents the CORRECT way to do EA.

Out of respect for the game, we've pulled down our server and are going to focus on other things, so that we can appreciate this little gem even more when the next major updates come out. It'll be hard to wait.... but worth it, I think.

Thanks for reminding all the developers out there just exactly where the bar should be. I hope you never forget that feeling of having a runaway hit because you did it right.

We're all looking forward to the next part!

Sincerely, all the guys still left at Clan [uBp] United Base Players

Thanks for sharing, all of you obviously enjoyed the spirit of the game without rushing through the EA content.

I'd just like to remind Devs that their game is also fully enjoyable when played in a somewhat unintended way: solo, upgraded stone age, no boss defeated (yet), only two biomes explored (obviously), stats in the 20-30 (many deaths), 700 days in (nights often included). Since the beginning, I gave myself the goal to first explore the starting continent prior to go after first boss, and I'm not done yet. it's both relaxing a passtime and an enticing experience (a bit time-consuming though): just exploring, mapping, [s]grinding[/s] making provisions for the next age and oversee exploration, building towers, lighthouses, safe havens and farms, training to kill a troll in one single encounter... Please let the game still provide such possibilities in the future.

The feeling of that first storm at sea, during night, in a fog, with a sea serpent somewhere off the port side and no harpoon, being pushed up against a rocky lee shore by the wind, and with everyone running the length of the ship with bows while yelling at you in discord to "get to land before we lose everything!" Excellent pucker-factor, totally 11/10.

I kinda wish the land was a little father apart, so I could tack properly.

WHAT?? 700 days is like 116 hours at least. Jog speed is 13.5 km/h. Even if your continent were the size of the entire world (20 km wide) you could have made at least 78 diagonals across the whole thing by now.

Even the OP leaves me incredulous - 538 hours to beat the game?????? The median play time across all owners is like 19 hours, LOL!

The game isn't "providing such possibilties," you are just playing at a mind-bendingly slow rate. You have played the game for literally hundreds of hours and don't even seem to be aware that it's possible for every biome to be on the starting continent.

Are you suggesting that they are enjoying the game incorrectly?

Cause I am seriously considering buying this title but now I'm concerned I won't be playing it properly even if I am enjoying it.

If you're enjoying the game then you're playing it correctly. That's all there is to it. Yes it's possible to rush through the game and can be challenging to do so but playing at your own pace, role playing, building, exploring, whatever it is you wanna do, just do it and have fun. Don't worry about anyone else telling you you're playing this game wrong. There is no wrong way to play it. It's as fun as you want to make it. This game is worth every penny already and is only going to get better as they add more content.

I use this line almost verbatim quite often :steamhappy:

To be clear, I have zero concern whatsoever if someone thinks I'm playing my single player game improperly and it has no bearing on my decision to purchase this game (which I will be doing on my next day off because I don't trust myself to buy it tonight AND get to bed at a decent hour).

Was just trying to be silly :lunar2019piginablanket:

430 hours here but I’ve played both on my own home worlds and a community server. Had one person on the community server play for 20 hours straight a couple of times due to pure addiction.

I am sitting around 40-50 hours (work chews up so much of my tiiime), and my sister nor I have defeated the second boss yet. We been mostly enjoying the exploring, building, and just the atmosphere of the game. Honestly when it comes to a sandbox titles, which is what Vaheim is, a giant sandbox, there is no right or wrong way to enjoy something.

That is why it is called "a sandbox", there is no right or wrong way to play in the sandbox, beyond just having a good time however you enjoy it.

Sounds like I am playing the game just like you and your mates did. Taking it slow. It's fun to get those levels on all the skills up pretty high. Some of them aren't just decrease in required stamina...for example, a high jump and high run level makes for some fun gameplay lol

I would say, take a break until the additional bosses are released, or do a PvP with your clan with different teams. Each team gets a certain amount of time to build their base, then you have to go on raids

You could also do a giant capture the flag game with a sword as the flag or something

Even though you've reached endgame for now, doesn't mean the little minigames need to end. :)
