after 300+ hours the one problem I see

Is biome mashing. Started a new toon and new seed and starting continent pretty much had every biome on it thus removing the need for the rest of the world. The swamp was absolutely littered with crypts. Couple mountaints with caves. Plains area at the opposing side.

the only reason there was to travel was to get to a boss. As for all the farming etc. I could do that on my main continent. I do hope they figure out a way to parse that stuff out in the future.

I should have prefaced by saying Ive played many seeds that required some travel. And re rolling a map isnt really that trivial a task. Its just something I hope gets panned out in the future.

Generation needs work, but its pretty solid. You can find any kind of map you like, islands or large landmass, all the main biomes clustered up or split apart, its all there. I am currently building in an amazing tiny chunk of plains next to a tiny BF all in a valley of mountains, like a doughnut where the center is plains & BF split and the rest is MTN. I would hate to give that up due to some 'that shouldn't happen' logic; the scenery is just amazing.

It happens and its a preference too for some players(as you can see the details on map seeds on 1 website that shows seed map info).

However, something to keep in mind, the game isn't done. While it may seem not so challenging currently there still mistlands(which will be rare to be on the same "continent" on many seeds, and other things.

Overall, for a generated world it's pretty good. The one thing that pisses me off is when you explore, for example, a massive swamp area and it turns out that it doesn't contain a single crypt, while a much smaller area can be jam packed with those.

Idk bout you guys n gals but sailing to me is 78-80% of the game. Could you imagine having a biome with no narrow creeks, no rivers, no open ocean? I get most of my content done quick on paced runs (not speed runs) from having a boat alone.

Like I'd rather not have to cart back an entire load of iron from a swamp biome through other biomes just to get to my main base. When I can simply just load up a longboat catch a good wind and zoom zoom I go. If I wanted to be cheeky I could put some carts on it as well but meh you get the ghist.
Thats what i mean with "coasting " : transporting metals from a coast to another where your base is in a pangea seed is enought
Other than looking for bosses its fine but for some tipe of island is a bigg ZZZZ ( i did it when i make settlements in the 4 corners of my first seed ) but for real , if you look some emotion sailing for long time only will get ZZZZZ , ocean biome its the most bored of alls

Be careful. The Devs might decide to stick mermaids/men in the sea to attack you while sailing (as often as dwarflings in the Meadow). I happen to like sailing without being disturbed except for the occasional sea serpent.

I personally like island seeds. All a matter of taste.

Yeah, boats just rock. Much more fun than a cart. ;)

Although this 'world' is a handiwork of Odin's design, not nature, I'm torn between the somewhat illogical random biome layout and the surprise/opportunity of a 1 x 2 meter section of Plains on the shore of a Meadows biome. It's like a jump scare and it gives a player the chance to experiment. If I run across some barley or flax I might be able to use it as a Deathsquito-proof cropland. The Plains extends out from the shore some distance so I could raise it up. I also wonder if there would be some mob spawns. See my dilemma? ;-)

If you spend enough time on the map website you'll see that an all-biome starter island is not very common. (Actually, I've never seen and all-biome start because mistlands are never close to spawn, and far north and ashlands are always at the top and bottom of a map. I've never seen a continent span that far. All currently playable biomes at start is possible though.) Some people reroll over and over to get one like that. Most common is just meadows and black forest, and maybe a small bit of mountain.

Randomization means that there's a decent chance you could end up on a seed that you don't like. If you really hate the one you were dealt, then pack your bags and migrate to a different one.

It can happen. Not technically a bug, but part of random generation. If you don't like it, I would recommend deleting that world and start over again with a new one.

The biome formation could use work. What I find most annoying is how there can suddenly be a teeny tiny little blob of some higher biome along the shore while sailing around a meadow or black forest. Had Deathsquitos fly out at me on some early starts, really unfun. Or a pack of leaches hamming away on my raft. Could use a little more consistency.

Like they could add in a UI with some sliders that allow so many biomes per land mass, sizes of land mass, consistency of land masses, ect.

I love sailing around so many islands would be fun for me but the poster above could setup Pangea.

Something similar to what civilization has.

I kind of enjoy the randomness of it. Each map represents a different kind of challenge.

If it bothers you just look up your seed before you start to get an idea of what it is like. You don't need to study it to just get a glimpse and general idea.

Some people would love a giant landmass with everything. I think it would just make things harder, boats can be pretty handy... it really would depend on the layout of the biomes and their resources.
