The Lost World

I've just lost about 100 hours of progress in Valheim. Needless to say, this is pretty discouraging.

Not having been born yesterday, I've kept *many* backup copies of my Valheim save folder (LocalLow->IronGate->Valheim). I made three separate backups the last time I played, and many before that. None of these backups will let me recover my world. I've spent hours copying them into the IronGate folder, then loading each of the cryptically-named versions shown in the Manage Saves dialog. All I can find are endless copies of my first run at the game, which I abandoned many, many months ago. No sign of the new world I was playing when I made the last backups.

What's *really* weird is that I did succeed in loading my latest save - exactly once. I have no idea what happened that one time. You'd *think* that once that world was loaded, Valheim would auto-save it, and it would load from then on when I restarted. Nope. It vanished like a mirage. All I get are various copies of the old world, and occasionally a new empty world (for no reason I can guess).

Valheim uses the term 'sync' when talking about cloud saves. I would read that to mean that the cloud contains a duplicate of my local saves. The fact that my save folders are hundreds of megabytes in size would seem to confirm this. And yet, as far as I can tell they don't contain the actual state of my newest world.

Anyone have any ideas on other things I could try?

have you checked the recovery option in the game and see if its there?

Otherwise i have no other ideas.

you should turn off steam sync, It cloud sync have always been messy/buggy and just removes progress for me in all of the games i've used it in.

Only really use it if you have to.
