I'm pretty sure that some stone or copper ore did once "sink" through a troll-made hole in a deposit, whereas my character could stand on solid ground at the bottom of this 1-2 meters deep hole. The hint is that I could see the "dropped item" sparkle passing through the ground but autoloot didn't work, like when items have drown in water far below the surface. Sometimes, there were no sparkle at all, as if the item had sunk too far below, or it had despawned.

Could this also apply to gravestones, making them invisible or at least non-interactible?

Has anyone ever found a gravestone distant from where it should have spawned? My first guesses are spawning under the surface, which might correct itself instantly if you dig in the right spot, or misplaced inside a nearby dungeon instance.

Two different issues in this thread or perhaps one issue manifesting itself in two different ways.

AnimatronicLouReed was killed. No map marker showing the location of the corpse appeared on the map. There was a corpse in the world at the place of death.

Minagho was also killed. A map marker did appear on the map. There was no corpse in the world at the place of death.

I have had experiences similar to AnamatronicLouReed. While I don't recall ever dying and having no map marker, I recall several occasions where the map marker disappeared from the map before I got to the corpse. I got into the habit of opening the map immediately after death and placing an additional marker on top of the game-generated one.

I cannot recall ever dying without leaving a corpse, as happened to Minagho. Minagho plays on a server open to other players. The paranoid in me suggests another viking looted Minagho's corpse.

Yeah this happened to me as well was still marked on the map but no grave, thankfully my server admin was kind enough to return all of my gear. I still have nightmares of being hunted by those thrice damned wolves.

When you relog the rune disappears and you have to go there any way, the rune is still there, just not on the map.

Do you remember where in that world you were?

It is a known issue. My best advice is use the dev commands to spawn your lost items. That is why the devs provided them. Game is EA, bugs are bounds to happen.
