I think he might have been emphasizing the difference between game programmers and most other programmers. Game programmers do it because they love doing it, they have fun creating new stuff and being a part of bringing a vision to life for the enjoyment of others. They don't do it for the size of the paycheck. In Iron Gate's case the paycheck came unexpectedly but after years of hard work and fun and they delivered the right product at the right place at the right time and bingo, huge success. All while having fun doing what they love to do.

A game where you cannot save your progress and workarounds are hit and miss

Not sure where you saw information stating that it's "like RUST" (i don't see that mentioned anywhere on the store page), but it certainly is NOT anything like RUST.
The game is designed to be solo and/or "coop with friends" (1-10 players who presumably trust each other) who work together to advance and progress through the game.
PVP isn't even a thing UNLESS, all parties involved actually agree to it, and each person personally toggles "friendly fire" in their own inventory page.... By default all players are immune from being hurt/killed by other players.
"Raiding" is a different matter... If a player is playing with people they don't know/trust, it is very possible to have your base destroyed, broken into and robbed and there is really nothing in place to prevent that. While the game provides the ability to craft a "ward", which is supposed to prevent players from unlocking /opening doors and chests, it does NOT prevent those items from being broken/destroyed, which is why most players don't allow "randoms" to join their world and why most all the worlds are locked behind passwords.
Afaik, there are no "open world" or "official" servers.
Solo play is totally viable... I only play solo (vanilla, no mods) and have completed all the current content several times.
Mods are allowed, and available (on 3rd party sites) but are not officially supported by the devs, so use at own risk.

Either you're attempting to be sarcastic, or you have no stinking clue as to the difficulty of computer programming. Yes, there is debugging, and meetings, but there is such a thing as writing code (not just fixing it) and designing and refactoring. After fixing the kind of bugs that only appear when you've sold an outrageous number of copies, and probably some refactoring because of at least one of them, the devs now seem focused on Mistlands, which is the next major update.
People who claim they are goofing off are ignorant. Programming a computer barely qualifies as work. After meetings, the worst part is bug-fixing. That's true for dull as dull can be business programming. This is a game. The devs have slogged through bugs and meetings. Now they're having fun. Try to hold them back from writing new content as fast as they can.
When you buy any EA game you have to ask if the game is fun to play now, and my answer is yes. Imho Valheim is worth twenty bucks even if it really was frozen in stasis forever, and it won't be.

You can enjoy the game completely alone, but also with friends on a shared server. mods are more than enough available. there are no npcs, apart from one, the vendor.

It's a single player survival game with co-op capabilities. NPC's are not in game due to the storyline currently but IGS is not done with the game because this is an "Early Access" title currently with a very small team, and the lead programmer worked on this game for 2 years solo.
Some people love to build, others explore, but I will say this, if you try to rush to the end of the game you will not have fun. This is more of a game to explore, chill and smell the cloudberries kinda thing while working for Odin.

it's a viking styled survival game stuck in early access with no major game-play updates; mainly bug fixes and cosmetics have been added. There are multiple biomes to explore, 2 are still unfinished since it released to early access. Bosses are in the game and they give you powers when you defeat them, but there's no real point in taking on the last one since there's nothing to progress towards after you beat it i see that the store says its like rust but i didnt like rust so is it a open server kind of thing or is it a solo thing till you invite people? can you play it solo and have fun? can you make a actual village with npc's? i see on the screenshots that there is a village you can build so thats why i ask. also is there a modding community?

All servers are private. You need to find a group to play with. There is a looking for group forum off to the side here. (But I always play solo and have a good time with it.)
And yes, there are lots of mods you can use from Thunderstore and Nexus.

It's a survival crafting game for people who mostly play open world action games. Minecraft with a kill list. Preparation, planning, and patience are as important as prowess. Imagine Schwarzenegger from the end of Predator. That's you killing bosses in Valheim.
