The Completionist; a long play

Going for a 'completionist' play-through this time around, the goal being (beyond not getting killed) to research, build and max level every item.

If you have done a completionist play-through how many game days did it take you?

The people who make these claims don't play the game. They play google. And they have the narrowest possible authoritarian definition of what counts and does not count as play.

Would this be a good time to point out that Valheim is not a first person shooter, or kung-fu side-scroller? There are games which are devoted to nothing but one-on-one combat. Play them.

I reckon crafting and fully upgrading every item (where applicable) will take a very long time indeed. The bronze age alone would break the spirit of most people.

You'll need, I dunno, 300 bronze? That's 600 copper and 300 tin. That's, roughly, 1800 pieces of coal to smelt everything... which requires 1800 wood. That's a vast amount of time / resources.

Definitely a challenge. I wish you luck.

I find this topic interesting. I find any play style interesting, even if I'm not interested in trying it out myself.

Does it include collecting all trophies too? Because I'm still missing one I think. Thousands of in game days and not a single Fuling Berserker trophy.....:steamsad:

I got roughly 300h on my main world, which was also my first world. I have every armor and weapon on max level, got every trophy and I either have built every structure or can build the remaining ones.

With the experience I now have it could probably be done within 100-200h, depending on your luck with drops. For example I just recently got my first wraith trophy after countless nights in the swamp killing them.

I also got a black metal chest full of every metal available in the game except for flametal (I got 18 stacks but exploring more of the ashlands before the devs finish them would not be smart).

not so much completionist but definately Long Play.. decided early on to start again and stick with a new map and avoid exploring beyond biomes not released.. Sadly it has one huge main island a few mountains and one swamp..no plains so a little sailing found trader and a few swamps and plains.. short story... since in game i have ALL ETERNITY to fight the mobs, im progressing at a snail pace..but have experimented with huge Star Forts and obligatory Terraforming, breeding and farming and enjoying the ambience the devs have created over 1400 in game days this world all vanilla.. like @Eightball [At this rate the new biomes will mesh nicely into my map with no restart needed.]

@Fzanco Well that is the plan, but as they say "..the best laid plans..."

Some caveats

- active biomes only
-starred mobs if they exist for that mob type (does every mob have a 1-2 star variant?)
-max skills maybe (will have to see where I am at after all else is done, not really into punching rocks for hours on end)

Otherwise I am going to give it a go. So far I have checked off everything up to the Elder (it is the next target) even added a few wolves in (no 2 star yet; too risky anyways atm). All that bronze!

At in game day 86 I think right now and that is seldom sleeping.

I have perfected night time mining and have become a big fan of the cart (for me two vertical rows of full stacks of ore/ingots is just the right weight allow me to run/pull over most obstacles at a good clip).

And the raids so far are nothing terrible. In fact I rather enjoy them as I use the Stagbreaker (something I really never messed with in other play-throughs) and it cleans em up quick.

I will say this style of play (taking your time) has me trying weapons and armor I really did not use much if at all before. We all develop our own 'meta'. but sometimes it is nice to expand a bit.

Not Completionist, but I am playing a long game that began after H&H released.

You could call it something akin to completionist: "Naivist"

Ignore anything you might learn from the web and resist the itch to look things up. The only knowledge you are allowed to use to focus your preparations is that which you gain by experiment in the game.

Said preparations must include whatever events the boss of the next biome will unleash against your bases once you defeat the current boss, so if you don't know, prepare to the max for everything.

Which could potentially include making every weapon, but I don't go that far. Irl, and in-game, you can't master every weapon. Even so, there is a lot to do. When you play Valheim this way, it is a saga and it is thoroughly engrossing as you make long-range plans and bring them to completion.

Don't forget about maxing every skill level to 100. Sorry, I've got nothing else to offer.

I did a playthrough were I made at least one of every craftable item and maxed the upgrades out, but I couldn't tell you how long it took me. I would guess around 250-300~ days, but I honestly don't remember. A lot of my nights were spent mining the ore needed. So, I didn't sleep much. Though at the same time, I wasn't rushing either. I spent a lot of time making every one of my satellite bases look and feel decent.

I feel like it would be possible to do something like that in around 200 days or so if it was your main focus. It always helps if RNG is on your side too!

So just to clarify when you say completionist do you mean;
- Build every single item available
- Build every peice of equipment available
- collect/make all possible collectable items
- max level every peice of equipment
- max level all workstations
- cook and eat all possible food items
- max level all skills
- kill all bosses
- listen to all available boss dialogues
- collect all trophies
- kill every type of enemy plus star variants
- tame all tamable animals
- breed all tamable animals
- buy all items available from Haldor
- discover all biomes

Did I miss anything?

Eh I did the 'fast attack' already. Only built and crafted what I absolutely needed. Explored only the most minimal amount.

And in doing that I really didn't enjoy myself as much as I might have.

So far this long play is great. No rush, taking time, crafting and using items I never would have before.

At this rate the new biomes will mesh nicely into my map with no restart needed.
