Arbalest

I just wanna see your oppinions on this.

I find it amazing. Probably one of the most fun weapons in the game with the knockback and the amount of damage id does. I find it rather well balanced and is fine as is. Saying that the only gripe I have with it the is the unloading if you unequip it.
That makes no sense from practicality standpoint.
Usually it takes a lot of force to prep a crossbow (or in this case a hand held ballista practicaly) which is show in game by the long reload animation. From that point forward the string is held in place by a mechanism and you are done. If you want to unload it there is no safe way of doing that other than removing the arrow and releasing the string. Thats what makes it supperior to a bow which you cant have preped but have to let go if you arent going to shoot.
So what do you guys think. Should the Arbalest stay loaded even if unequiped but in your inventory?

My personal vote is on yes, since the current mechanic makes no sense from gameplay and practicality standpoint.

Why doesn't it stay loaded? Best guess is that the devs didn't want us walking around with a full hotbar of preloaded arbs waiting to promote some poor invading seeker from raider to missing person.

LMAO, didnt cross my mind. Thats a promotion I would dish out gladly to some of those fckers!

its really powerful, for tough enemy (gjall, lox) that all you to reload. Its a bit frustrating against hordes or smaller targets. Its a welcome addition but not a total replacement for a normal bow. I don't like that the bow armor does not boost it.

Considering that Medieval longbows and crossbows would loosen or even remove the bowstring when not in use so as to save the string tension then it seems consistent to have some preparation time for re-stringing and loading the weapon when selecting it from inventory to fire at a target.

correct, its a balance issue. belt full of loaded arbalests would be stupid.

They could easily fix that by allowing only one Arbalest to stay loaded. I also think it should stay loaded if you put it away loaded, but certainly not a whole hotbar of them. lol

It's a good weapon especially once the skill is leveled up. The loading is less of an issue once you hit 30's and if you have the patience to get it even higher than the loading is super quick. Also nice the bolts are so easy to make, Bone and carapace are both easy to get, and black metal depending if you have an overabundance of BM from killing fulings if you had a Plains base.

My main issue with it more i use it is just the games crappy system of aim, where the crosshair isn't actually where the bolt is going, you need to adjust higher/lower depending on terrain and angle. They really need to make a true "aim" camera for ranged weapons. The other issue but this is endemic to all weapons is how slow it takes to level up, the crossbow hits less often than other weapons, since damage is not calculated into XP, it's one of the slowest weapons to level in the game, if not the. They need to change the XP system to account for how much damage is dealt.
