Transporting Metal

Other than loading some onto a boat and sailing cross sea are there any other methods?

I've heard taming and riding a lox is a method. Never tried this myself, but there's a video of a clever Viking fully encumbered with metal riding his lox home.

Would be nice if they just made an upgraded portal recipe made from exotic/late game materials that lets you travel with metal, call it progression and just be done with it.

...Or a rare 'fuel' your existing portal consumes out of your inventory each time you travel with metal.

I understand the restriction, but at the same time having a tangible goal of lifting it would be fun, like how the Moder power eventually makes wind direction unnecessary. It would be a good compromise I think. Most people would opt not to cheat or use mods if they know there's something they can do in game for their character to eventually be able to do what like 95% of players want

interesting take! Maybe Dragon Tears or Torn Spirits can be used as fuel or Boss Trophies. Some armor mods require boss trophies and drops to craft, which i find fun and interesting.

Hah, it's a fun image, tricking your portal weekend at bernie's-style into accepting your pile of ore as a bunch of vikings because see? They've got spirits! Kinda! surely you're just misreading their sick armor?

...there have got to be consequences for such deception...

i like the upgrade portal idea, or a portal using more higher level mats, or costing some metal to transport each time
*deposit an egg or something higher value each time to transport

Use ValheimRAFT and you can build an entire ship with multiple decks with storage on every one, if you're into mods(it is not without its problems). Regardless though, I'd recommend having some ore processing capacity on every major landmass you come across. If you always try to take your ore somewhere specific you'll be in for quite the journey later in the game. Those long voyages can make you sleepy

If you're playing vanilla and need to jump islands.... boat is all you got. Carts are useful but lay a path between mining spots and where your base is if you're able to because it's a delicate mofo to pull around. You can also stack the cart and put the cart on a boat so you can take even more home at once. Tricky but doable if you build a little dock to push it down onto the boat from there.

Well, technically... You can load the ore into your inventory, log out, switch to another world, unload the ore, switch back to your current world, TP back home, load to that other world etc etc.

But it will kill the game for you. Once you start cheesing, nothing matters. What's the point of mining the boring ore when you can have it all with just one console command? God mode helps too, you don't need the stupid gear at all (bar maybe the troll denim pants for looks)

So it's for you to decide, do you play by Odin's rules, or do you iddqd idqfa it.

Mods. Or doing that thing where you have a second world where you store everything.

We actually love transporting in a boat. It gives us the opportunity to farm a couple of sea serpents as we go. 2 birds, one stone.

several.
- you can load up on stamina food and hoof it until you run out, drop the metal, repeat.
- you can ease the terrain and use a cart.
- you can just haul what you can carry multiple times.
- you can build your crafting station on the spot and convert to gear there.
- you can kick the small 4 slot storage boxes around, and they float. limited usefulness but you can use that to put more ore on a boat (this is awesome on a karve) or to move it off a mountain (hint, hint) or to make method 1 (hoof it with stamina) work across a small body of water. These are created from breaking a cart with items in it.

not to mention many different ways to cheat the metal around, like multiple world dumpsite or mods to allow portal or just directly creating the metal in your bag.

Once serpents aren't as dangerous then the boat is the easiest option by far imo.

The cart stores a lot more but its fragile to larger enemies and building a good road takes some time and effort. It IS worth it though depending upon how many stacks you are hauling. And if you are carting through other biomes with other metal sources then you can steadily add more as you go using portals and rest houses to resupply.

I haven't tried the Longboat yet so I can't comment on that option.
