BOSSES DON'T DESPAWN!?
Okay, skill issue yadda yadda yadda I died once with my full gear and need to get gud yadda yadda yadda.
Look, I spend a half an hour sailing and another 30-45 minutes setting up a secondary base I could respawn at and repair my equipment after retrieving it. I didn't know that bosses remain in their arenas after you die to them because Eikthyr was piss easy. I also didn't know that if you die and respawn relatively nearby (it wasn't within Line of Sight) the boss REMAINS AGGRO'D ON YOU THROUGH YOUR BASE.
What follows is my new home getting stomped into and me getting spawn camped by Elder for the next 20 minutes as I try to run over to my tombstone without getting one-shot (that ranged root attack can suck my ♥♥♥♥ from the back it does ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way too much damage) before he finally manages to hit my bed and send me back home... an hour and a half's worth of work gone over a minor oversight and a questionable design choice.
Luckily I'm not a total ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and I actually set up backup gear just in case I ever get sent home like this but the fact remains: Why do the bosses stick around and moreover why do they remain aggro'd through base walls after you respawn? That seems needlessly punishing especially when I didn't go underprepared at all, I had the best gear for my level and set up an entire second home base since Elder's arena spawned so far from home.

Bosses have a red circle on the map once summoned--that's pretty much their aggro zone. So if your base is in that circle, or very close to it, getting attacked by them there isn't a surprise.
Easy way to stomp the elder next time. Prior to summoning, drop lots of campfires on the outer stone ring of the facility and the ground just beyond. You should have lots of rock from all that mining you did, use it. :D Then, you simply set up opposite side from the elder, shielding yourself from his attacks and sniping with a bow. That annoying roots attack he does is completely nullified by the presence of the campfires, and he generally won't cross them either, so you can snipe with impunity (just dodge his ranged attack behind the indestructible pillars).

I'm happy that bosses don't despawn as I would otherwise need to gather the materials needed to summon them again and start the battle anew with them having full HP, in the unfortunate case of dying.
The aggro is another thing all together, it is questionable if you had your secondary base too near it, as they should be able to wonder around but have some sort of range. Like when events happen, you have the red circle thingy on your map, the same could be implemented with bosses but I have yet to see them wander too far from their spawn, sure, they will chase you.
I usually am over-prepped for fighting bosses, when it comes to using teleports. I setup first one where I make land, another about halfway there and third near the summoning altar. these 3 teleports are the minimum. Prepping to fight moder, I build 9 of them around the altar and peppered here and there in the vicinity.
But now you know something new about this game, and it's all about the journey

I hate that you lost your base but if it is any consolation, all your materials are still there so you lose only the time and aggravation to reassemble it, and you won't make this mistake again (having your spawn too close to the arena).
If you can get somewhere and hide and break aggro, they should go home to their arena, not camp your spawn. But you need to get them off you to do that, which means running a good distance and going into stealth, or entering a cave, or the like.

They should reset and insta-heal to 100% HP for no cheese, if there are no players in X radius. But they should not need more sacrifice.
