Mistlands - What's Your Weapon of Choice?
Background: Once upon a time, I was new to Valheim. On my very first playthrough I went with the Axe. I figured, it's good for chopping trees and mobs. Then I reached Bonemass. Ok, I get that "Bonemass" is supposed to be a mass of bones, but he looks like Jello. Never would have guessed to use blunt weapons on Jello.
Lacking significant blunt skill, I just started a new game and went with the mace. I've been mace/shield ever since. I've tried other weapons, but find a good parry/stagger and cranium bashing is my preferred style. Not being an elite-backstab-dodge-roll-snipe-on-the-run-hardcore-player, I find the parry/stagger gives me an extra half-second to react before I'm overwhelmed and die a horrible and painful death. (Well, except for Fulings. I still suck at getting the timing right to parry them. They get the long-range snipe/kite routine.)
Questions to anyone having "success" in the Mistlands: Am I headed for another "Bonemass" moment? Are there Mobs only beatable by a specific weapon? Or by magic? What weapon are you having success with?
If I'm going to need, say, sword skill for example, I need to start working on it now!

Darkmetall Axe, Poison Bow, Deadraiser and Fire staff. My 2 minions keep most enemies away from me so i can take them down with fire or arrows. Getting to like the staff more and more since it has splash damage.

about pre mistlands -
sounds like you're pretty much fine; I still have some problems parrying fulings too (esp. big ones), but against fulings and wolves i also tend to use the atgeir, keeps the mobs at distance (higher range and ~360° secondary attack) and makes kiting easier since you can walk faster (less use of running for kiting / dodging = more stamina for fighting back) and pick off singled out targets easier. With atgeir I usually do not need rolls, but do parry sometimes for the stagger effect on the enemies when they're too strong to be staggered by the secondary attack.
learning to parry will be quite essential for melee later on though, but having bonemass defeated you also have this nice resistance buff, which is excellent not only for tough situations or bosses but also for training purposes :)
about mistland mobs ("bonemass moment") -
short answer: yes and no - there is a small bonemass moment, kinda. But I'm also one of those guys who simply shot through 2 bows to defeat/weaken bonemass (repaired the bow, logistics ftw!) and crafted so many fire arrows in advance that i still had some stacks left afterwards i think.
But you will have to chew through those moments first if you are not suuuper lucky with your biome generation before you get your new toy to make stuff a little to a lot easier. As in every new biome.
Anyway, I recommend having a frostner (1h hammer) and a blackmetal roundshield as well as a good bow on you along with a lot of ammo (i had needle and frost arrows, was ok-ish). And on top of that maybe a blackmetal atgeir.. gotta recommend it, i love it. A Sword actually is between ok and good quite often for slashing tiny trashmobs grouped with bigger mobs, eg... however, swords strike apparently quite horizontal, and i feel as if i end up having more misses due to terrain than with an atgeir or Frostner.
however, when going to mistlands, do not forget to bring some potions and resistances as well as your best food. I went for maximum health + health reg since i didn't really know what to expect. It worked well for me, but i guess it's down to personal preferences and FPS (try a dodge and backstack build with ~15 fps lol). Oh, and maybe set up at least one >extra< portal up for the way back home :')

the greatsword heavy attack paired with parry does ridiculous damage without needing stealth, like 2 shotting a seeker soilder 1 star

The seekers are resistent to piercing and slashing damage, but not to blunt. Also they have a weak spot on the back (useful for sneaky attacks or when is a dwarf). The giant fliying tick has a weak spot on the bottom, so the arbalest is great to deal with them.
That said, I loooove the new Atgeir, the lightning effect is so cool!!. I always use Atgeir, so I like this pretty much.

Seekers are resistant to all physical damage (Blunt, Slashing and Pierce), so every weapon type will struggle equally - hence some of the new weapons are elemental hybrids to combat them better.
My personal favourite is Himmin Afl (Lightning Atgeir), but I was already using the Black Metal one before that. The other Elemental options are a (Frost) Sword and a (Poison) Axe.
So if you want to level skills in advance, one of those is probably best.
Probably the best weapon as of now is the Fire Staff though, maybe even too much so.
Ranged, AoE, huge damage and DoT, low weight and no ammo to carry - and while you need special food to gain Eitr (Mana) which means low health and stamina, casting doesn't cost stamina, so all of it can be used to run and kite (and the Protection Staff takes care of the low health).
You'll have to start from scratch with leveling Elemental and Blood Magic though.

Funny thing is that people asked for dual wielding axes or swords, and what did they give us? Dual wielding knives. KNIVES. No single handed blunt weapons... Im basically a barbarian type and im sad it's dual wield...

i wasn't patient enough to make a new weapon so, i just ran through the mistlands using my mace and shield and died hundreds of times, but look i think the first thing to have is a bow
then maybe a slash weapon is your choice or even an atgeir!

I used porcupine/BM shield most of the time. I just unlocked the new mistlands weapons last night and I must say the staves are the way to go on the seekers. Not sure if i prefer the new bow over the trusty draugr fang yet......they seem to be about the same on the gjalls.
I'm trying out the Mistwalker sword (slash/frost) and it seems to do pretty well also. I haven't tried the 2h swords and hammers yet so no opinion on those yet.

I haven't found enough stuff to make new weapons so I stick with what gives me the best benefit: frost hammer because of the slowing effect.
Inside the mine I used the 2H hammer because the AoE is always nice in dungeons. But maybe that's not the best because it also breaks things that might help me?
When I had to go into the mine naked to recover my gear I used an atgeir because of the secondary attack stun.
