I don't know man, I've got a couple of really tall buildings that I'd really like to preserve.

Try solo play, there is no timer or time limit so you can take all the time you want before taking on the challenges, and properly prepared those challenges are fair and doable as a solo player.
You can take time to make your best home, make the best kit to take on the enemy, or just chill and enjoy the sights.

1. Try the advert subforum. Or as others mentioned, solo/single player is pretty normal for the game.

2. Don't rush through. Take your time unless you are the type that doesn't like to spend much time in games like this. If you guzzle your mead too soon, you're really not going to taste the meal in front of you.

3. Technically, you can't "finish" the game because the game itself isn't finished and more in the future is incoming. Keep that in mind then with your progression considerations.

Keep in mind that this game, due to how people can alter the terrain and deplete a map's resources very quickly most server owners are selective with whom they allow to play with them and if you're considering running your own server, I recommend being equally cautious.

Some communities have a building map and then rotate out resource seeds(think on it as portal maps) to gather resources from. Jiroc the Viking who has a youtube channel and has interviewed devs and does lots of vids on the game maintains that sort of community set up However, he charges a subscription to play on his servers.
