Saltiness
I died. Respawned at base. Base immediately invaded. Died another 3 times. Much of base destroyed. Very salty about the whole thing.

Yea the raids need to spawn the enemies a bit further away and have a delayed spawn if the player just loaded the chunk around his home.
This is clearly not Vortex's fault if you read past everything else people are spouting. They made mobs and bosses attack structures more and with raids how they are this makes it difficult to react before you have holes in your home everywhere right before you step out to fight the raid off.

I'm curious why there isn't a fence around the structure. I always have at least one ring of fence around the base and also a moat for very important bases. Moderately important scout bases get two rings of fencing now that the mobs attack the fences more often.
The raid with drakes will require some planning in base design to make the resting area as secure as possible for that event, but a nice stone section in my bases will be my plan for that raid, but I haven't reached that stage of the game yet. I'm just thinking of ways to enhance my current bases for surprise attacks from the air.

I am only an low / mid level player in terms of stats (Bronze armour/axe etc) but over 100 hours across 2 seeds (one solo one with my son) as I like to build and explore. I rather like the new more aggressive enemies as while it's harder the base building and defending (in the black forest at least) is something I really enjoy... planning walls and spikes etc.

Also on another note, attempt to rest by placing wooden doors and panels on the ground.
Mobs ignore you to take down your impromptu building and you get a good rest.

Look, you've played Darksouls, you should've been ready for that :D I died. Respawned at base. Base immediately invaded. Died another 3 times. Much of base destroyed. Very salty about the whole thing.
Anyway, that is rather unfortunate. I keep a full set of my lower tier armor, and some good food, just for such cases.

So do I. The problem is the enemies spawned before I could even get to it.

Seems when you listen to late-game EA users and change things to accommodate them, seems to burn the 'newbie' players...and thus begins the never-ending push/pull to make everyone happy...we all know how this ends.
Just sayin'; don't want to start a few player in a new world and deal with all the events that are now 'default' behavior make things even harder to progress.
This inspired me to start a new alt and seed and i must say its alot more brutal now lol. Was in a crypt and instead being able to just shut a door and rest the skellies now just break down the door and chased me... Felt very frightening, i liked it. Not too sure about the entire update tho. Will see how things are as i progress, just got my antler pickaxe, lets see what happens.

I thought the death of the player ended a raid event? IDK

I didn't die during the raid. I died elsewhere (and the teleporter I put down on a tiny island was promptly destroyed when 3 enemies spawned on it). It was when I respawned that a raid began immediately.

I guess I am confused ... when did you die another three times then? By your OP I assumed it was where you ended up when you died the first time and the event started?I thought the death of the player ended a raid event? IDK

No I died a significant distance from camp. Then I respawned. The camp was immediately invaded and I died 3 times to the invaders because I had no time to grab any food or gear.

Yes; if experience with multiple games over many years is any indication, it ends with the game being rendered unplayable for the casual player or n00b.

Nothing that cannot be solved by common sense. Yes, things might require more advance thinking and planning as the game is tweaked, but that is the way one should play anyway.
Never place a portal out in the open. It should always be enclosed by a building.
Never build a portal or building without keeping a workbanch or fire inside the protected area to keep spawns a reasonable perimeter away.
If you should respawn back in your base or other location and an event begins, run away until you can get some cover. The event will only end when you return to within the event red circle. So moving in and out of it as enemies pursue will eventually run down the clock and end it.
