luring sea serpents?

I get the idea you just have to chance upon sea serpents in the Ocean biome, but is there any way to lure them? Like in Jaws when they throw pounds of chub into the sea or whatever those fish parts are?

I have a theory I am working on, looking for the right world conditions.

- I've had serpents spawn extremely close to shore to kill leeches that moved from the swamp to the shores of a dark forest. As with most biome critters, serpents hate critters from other biomes. Many of my outposts are set on borders so mobs are distracted and kill each other. Having the bench/fire attracts. I make a large square ditch and let the action play out.

- My theory is that if you manage to find a stripe of land in the swamp that is adjacent to or just designated ocean you can raise the ground to a working level and set a workbench/fire. You may be able to prompt spawn conditions by abusing the aggro system and "baiting" with leeches. There was no reason whatsoever for my serpent to come to shore apart from killing leeches. If your world hates you as much as mine hates me, you will get hordes of leeches chomping at the shoreline. Let em build in numbers and wait n see what comes.

Had 2 serpents spawn last night in the same place. Also if you drag them onto a biome other enemies attack them.

Exactly how i did it.
You dont need that many wolves, 2 will be enough.

BTW, i love that widescreen screenshots <3

Taming would be too much to ask. Hi Yo, Serpent, Away!!

Actually its not my idea, a friend and I did that together.
Now we have 3 serpents in that pit, and its right next to the base. They say hello every time we come back to the base :)
If we use portal to get back to the base they do their roars simultaneously. It sounds great.

Also, I think the pen can be done with wooden walls. I dont think they will attack structures, only boats.

Every time I load into that beach (which took me a day or more make) the Neck's spawn like crazy, and the wolves kill them and eat instantly ...and of course multiply. I easily have 200 wolves on that island stretching from the planes biome to my main base.

If by "lure" you mean trigger a spawning I'm sad to report that the answer is no. Currently the only way to find them is to stumble on them. But they do end to spawn in the same spots so when you see one try and mark it on your map. Not sure what current spawn conditions are though, it was night and stormy last time I went hunting 6 months back but the devs might have changed that.

if you don't outrun them by a large lead Serpents will follow you a fairly long didstance so luring them to a kill zone isn't that hard. They will focus onthe baot so a Karve or Longboat is best for their high HPs, but I've used a raft for one that was really close to shore a few times.

Once you have one chasing you you can just let go of the rudder and fire off some arrows then grab the rudder again if needed. Flint arrows works but I've found Frost to be most effective if you have the mats for them. Also it might sound like the boat is going to explode any second but even a Karve can handle more aattacks than you think it will.

If you just want to meat you can kill them in open water since that part floats. If you want the scales or traphy you'll need to lure it into very shallow water as those items sink.

If you have an Abyssal Harpoon you can drag them onto shore, have some stam potions and a good meal in your belly for that because it burns stam rapidly.

The Harpoon is made from Chitin harvested from the Abyssal Barnicles on Leviathins. Its easy to get if you pay attention to the sounds the Leviathin makes and Levs are all over the place. Also one of those spawn points to track on your map as they will respawn there eventually. There are many clips on Youtube covering it.

Good hunting!

As far as i know, world of Valheim is split up into zones, each 64x64 meters. Every time you enter a zone Sea serpent has 5% chance to be spawned. Im talking only during the night or storm. So your best way to find a Sea serpent would be to sail around at night. Throwing food around will not help, trust me i tried :)
They dont eat food, they just kill animals and leave food. However, they do love snacks.
Here, have a look at my Sea serpent pet having a snack :)

I killed 3 of them in one day (it was the night, to be honest). First, i sailed in rain (it doubles your chances) with only half of speed, within the shore sight, but in the ocean. When serpent appears, it likely follow you for half of minute (and you cant' see it because of rain, waves and distance) and then leave. When you find it, you need to attack it or allow it to bite your boat. And then rush to shore and kill it with bow.

1) no need to mark spots on your map. Ocean Biomes have a chance to spawn Serpents at night.
2)Chances are increased in bad weather.
3) Night spawned serpents will disappear at dawn
4) You can get serpents to spawn in the ocean biome during day time in bad weather.
These spawns will NOT despawn and will remain (day or night).
5) When you are in an ocean biome under "spawning conditions" (night time and/or bad
weather) Always keep an eye out behind you, slow down occasionally (even stop). They
don't always spawn aggro'd to you so if you blaze at full sail through a ocean block you
can often trigger a spawn w/ out seeing it.

Do not confuse serpents you encounter in the daytime and in good weather as proof serpents can spawn in daylight and good weather. They are simply serpents you have spawned earlier but did not see.

If you are interested in trophies and scales I flattened out this beach and populated it with 2 star wolves. I simple harpoon the serpent... beach my longboat, jump off and drag the serpent onto the shore and the wolves make quick work of him.

That pole in the center is lined with Serpent trophies.
