To the mad genius who made the sea serpent

I've hunted dozens of them now (still no !#*$@ trophy. stupid RNGesus) for their meat, and each time one pops up from the waves I'm reminded of just how terrifying they look, and how much it feels like a epic tale dragging it up onto land far enough to kill it before it can get back into the water.

Not sure who did the work on making them, but you did one hell of a good job!

As to your not getting a trophy, have you tried hauling them into shallow water or onto land? Trophies and scales (used to) sink to the bottom of the water in which they fall.

I drag them up on land. Figured that one out after my second kill left some scales too far out of reach underwater. I’ve just had RNGesus not liking me on the drop for it. It happens :P

Hands down my favorite part of the game was early on sailing the sea in sheer terror of serpents

The enemy/beast design in the game is very good.

I remember my first time coming across one in my first boat, and the adrenaline rush it was to try and make it to safety. It made me fear traveling by boat until I was able to upgrade to the larger one. Now I go out ever two days to hunt them for meat. I know you can harpoon them, and drag them to shore but I've never really felt like doing that. Easier to just kill them for that fantastic meat and move on. Overall next to the rock gollems they're the one enemy I am on constant alert for. That is until I reach the plains.

Agreed, the serpents are by far my favourite monster. Nothing like the terror of an ocean voyage when that deep mist descends and the wind changes against you and you know that at any moment, the water could start glowing, heralding the arrival of those giant jaws.

I had one do it's "challenge roar" thing right over my longboat once. Literally head over the deck. I didn't even spot it until then since all my attention was on the second serpent that was behind me, chasing me. Then *ROAR*

My best friend got to hear me express the sheer coolness of the serpents over voice chat once.

They are just really stinking cool. The weird bio-luminescent antennae covering the entire serpent just makes it look like a bunch of eyes slithering towards you out of the dark! The colour choice is also really good, with the bright red fin/membrane and the deep dark blue scaled body beneath.

I'm honestly not scared of them anymore, I used to be, but now they are really cool. :lunar2019piginablanket:

One of my favorite Valheim memories: Playing with friends early on. We hadn't the slightest clue about the sea, boat control mechanics, or serpents to say the least. I have/had screenshots. We hear a thump, someones like "wtf was that?". We all look around, nothing we press on, another loud "thump". We look around spot something in the water. A massive serpent raises it's head and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ roars at us. I'm thinking "this ♥♥♥♥ is real" Someone said "we're going to need a bigger boat"

Long story medium, the boat gets destroyed, we are in the water, i /s "Bring the other boat"

Then the serpent kills me.

I've leveled a huge Meadows coastal stretch of land to sea level (this I assume helps me drag the serpent onto shore). This stretch of land digs deep into a mountain that rises to the mountain biome, this provides me with natural boundaries that keep my 2 star wolves relatively confined to this muddy beach. Necks constantly spawn providing ample food for the wolves. I drag the serpents onto the shore and the wolves make quick work of them.
