Thinking about getting it

As the title says, I am pondering on whether I should get this.
Can someone point out a few positives and negatives about this game?
Also have a friend who could be interested in this game.

I'm in a similar boat and am trying to decide between buying this or Frozen Flame. So I'll ask questions here regarding things I'm curious about.

Are there any mods to improve the graphics, or at least the character models?? I hate to say it but that is one thing that bugs me is how bad the models look like. I understand why they did it but as much as I hate to say it, other games like this have spoiled me(such as Conan Exiles).

When it comes to building is there an issue with stability?? I love building in these games and if there's one thing that Conan Exiles really pissed me off with was their "fixes" regarding stability. They kept tweaking it so much that in order to build really nice structures you need a ton of pillars, which completely destroys the bases internal look. Even stuff that would work in real life require way more stability than necessary. They even added things to help with it but since people found ways to abuse them they got taken away(not removed, just lost their benefit).

Really those are the only two things I'm interested in, everything else sounds great. I'm torn between this and Frozen Flame. One of the reasons why I'm looking over at FF is the graphics but that game is so new it's hard to know how far it will go in the long run.

OH!!! one more question. Can you build circular?? I still think Conan has some of the best building mechanics I've ever played with, yes, even with that stupid stability issue. One of the reasons is I enjoy building towers and other circular structures so are there pieces that allow you similar builds??

Yes, there are mods that improve the general look of the game. I've also seen certain streamers change their model entirely to high-quality models with physics 'n' whatnot. I've personally not used either one, though, so I'm not certain how extensive it can be.

Yes, there is stability. Once you reach the iron age (about halfway through the current content), you can build rather impressive structures with the improved building materials. If that much stability is an issue, there are mods that can completely disable it.

And yes, you can build circular with enough space.

Since you guys giving pointers about cons.. i'm the type to shy away from multiplayer (since i don't have many online friends, lol sad). Is this game playable in singleplayer? And will it be still fun? Thanks

it is very playable single player. it will still be fun. The game has a ~95% player rating with almost 350k reviews. For 13 bucks you cannot go wrong by getting it. imo its best to get it and dive in. Dont read anything.

Its not a great survival game. more like a half hearted action game.

Its the best 20 bucks you can spend on a game if you have any interest at all.

Hope you enjoy it, and watch out for trees- they can get ornery! :)

Good point. Sort of forgot about it because that's another thing I've tweaked with mods.

Pros:
  • Randomized world to explore makes every world unique.
  • Steady difficulty curve rewards progression and preparation.
  • Building a base can be a lot of fun. Creativity can yield impressive structures and bases.
  • Cutting down trees is satisfying.
  • A pretty good amount of content already, with more on the way.
  • A mix of old graphics and modern lighting makes for a very pretty game.
Cons:
  • Difficulty spikes can occur if unprepared, or if a group of upgraded enemies rush you.
  • The core game loop mostly repeats itself through every biome.
  • Combat can be clunky. Especially noticeable when on uneven terrain.
  • Gathering of resources can be tedious.
  • Inventory is limited, and only gets more limited as you try to bring the necessary gear to be prepared for anything.
  • Weapon and armor durability.
  • Can't teleport with certain items.
  • Death is punishing.
  • Food system requires a constant flow of meals or else your character's health/stamina pool becomes limited.

I know there's a fair amount of cons there, but overall the game is enjoyable, but there are a few things that can limit one's enjoyment. If you run into those things, I highly recommend checking out some mods to reduce/remove the things you dislike. I struggle to push through and complete the current content, but with a single mod, I've greatly increased how much I love this game.

Thanks for the useful information. I think I'll get the game and try it out when my friend gets back from holidays. Cheers.
