But where did you read that?

This is what it says in the patch notes:
* Helmets covering the player character’s face should now hide beard

The padded helmet covers the entire face so the beard should not clip through it.

You cannot contain the true power of a viking's beard!

A viking's beard is like a living entity and the source of his strength.

Seriously, your beard should be able to attack on it's own, like hair tentacles. Possibly equip daggers to your beard.

This needs to be in the game.

No, if you read carefully it only applies to Fenris hood and that Wooden helmet you craft from Abomination. I personally love the way my beard flows from the bottom of my Padded Helmet.
