Boars not breeding
Hi everyone,
even though I've breed boars before, my latest boars don't seem to be in the mood ...
They were tamed days ago, are fed and have enough space and still show no interest in breeding at all.
Is there anything else to consider?

I take it you have never played minecraft? I have almost convinced myself that time does not pass for my boars unless I am present. I moved all of my farming operations, including tree farming, to the boar farm, built elaborate defenses around the farm, and so on.
If it turns out that I need to sleep with my boars, I am going to rename the farm to "Dogpatch."
Yes if you are too far away the chunk is not loaded, and time does not pass, goes for valheim and goes for minecraft. Thats why i dont make farms else where, and insted make a pen at my base.

You are right, I have not played Minecraft. It's good to know. I'm going to have to turn my boar farm into Dogpatch.
When you enter a chunk, Valheim could calculate what mobs have been plausibly doing in your absence. Most of the time, they'll just have wandered off. Boars with plenty of food should have bred. The food should be gone. Mobs that were in hot pursuit when you went through a portal should have a chance of destroying the portal before they wander off.

Well since time doesn't pass when you are not present, you may want to push yourself over the edge of convincing yourself. What I have observed so far is that food isn't eaten and piggies don't get born unless I am on the farm. All my boars are in one moderately large pen to simplify feeding, but this does not simplify counting. :) So to clinch it I am going to cull the herd to two and leave them alone with plenty of food for several "days."
If you duck through a portal with enemies in hot pursuit, whenever you return they will still be there. Time doesn't seem to pass for mobs if the player is not present.
Obviously, mobs cannot live out their lives when the player is not in the vicinity, that would take too much processing. The game's Dungeon Master must calculate what they might have done in your absence, such as eating food and having piggies, or wandering off, or destroying the gate, and so-forth and I think the DM in Valheim (assuming it's structured that way) isn't yet finished.

I have had great success breeding boars. The best trick is to throw down a stack of 2 food items between 2 boar that are close enough together to detect the food. When they meet to eat they breed 90% of the time. If I see a group fairly close together, I will throw down a stack of food to equal their numbers. If there is some distance between them, push them together then feed them. I will fill my inventory slots with stacks of 2, push one boar close to another, then throw down the stack of 2 and watch the hearts throb, works like a charm.
There is an added bonus in feeding & breeding boar (lox or wolves) using this method, in that I do not have to hang around the area for long. Once the lovemaking occurs I can leave, because when heart throb occurs breeding is completed and the boar will produce offspring whether one is in the vicinity or not.

there's one more thing nobody mentioned: if there are 5+ boars in one small area, no boars will breed. It's best to have a breeding pair somewhere, and then move the piggies away somehow.

yeah you gotta hang around somewhere nearby for half a day or so while they do their business.. chop wood or something and listen to the boar song fill the air.. or maybe dig a trench.. trolls don't climb trenches very well..

All you needed to do to start breeding them is feed them, when you stop feeding them they stop breeding. Turnips, carrots, these are the good foods for them.... do not use yellow mushrooms.

Berries of both types, carrots, and turnips are food. Just toss a stack in the pen. Dig a sizable trench around the pen, it isn't as arduous as it sounds. Keep fire away from the pen. Stay around them until they breed.

Make sure the breeding area is protected by blanketing it with anti-spawn items like workbenches, wards & campfires (both can be buried. fire sources do not have to be lit) or torches. I found additionally placing workbenches up high in the trees outside of my boar/wolf pens helped a lot. Although fire no longer agitates tamed animals, it is not a good idea to have lit unprotected fires around that they might run through if they do get agitated. When there is an invasion event, make sure to run outside of any defenced areas and engage the invaders quickly. This will save damage to buildings and animals.

Yes, time doesn't pass when the region not active on the server. There was in fact a bit of a glitch a while back with it. If you left home for a few days but returned at night, plants wouldn't grow, because hey plants don't grow at night. Dunno if that got fixed.

Best solution to that is making a breed tower near you base or where are your boars , make them a real secure place to breed I have almost convinced myself that time does not pass for my boars unless I am present. And yes , you most be near the area to start breeding
