Visual effects

I'm thinking about purchasing this game and was watching some you tube videos of gameplay beforehand. I noticed when fighting creatures or animals or chopping trees, the screen shakes and there is a lot of flashing. Is there any way to turn those features off. I have seizures and can't play games that have a lot of those effects. Thank you for any help with this.

Havent seen any mods and the game is still in EA but i also doubt that there will be options after EA for everything since its a small indie dev.

Isnt there any third party software to generally reduce those things in games or maybe even with graphics drivers or maybe even built into hardware like special monitors?

I think most game devs probably will never really implement those things themselves since its probably a lot of work and its probably safer from a legal point of view to warn people than to say its safe and maybe have bugs issues afterwards. Also looking at the games industry - many companies dont even seem to care about motionsickness - having options to disable headbobbing etc. are actually easy to implement ...

There is a lot of flashing in the game as there are thunderstorms regularly. As well certain boss fights, like the first one, is full of extremely flash filled weather and effects. I would steer clear of the game in your case, but can't say for certain as people have different been levels of sensitivity, but better safe than sorry with seizures.

Let's divide this into shaking and flashing.

The camera shake which occurs when you strike things with your fists or a tool is an immersive program feature and can be turned off in the Misc tab of the Settings menu as loewenjenf suggests. It does not work on the camera shake that occurs, as Mharr notes, when the game engine cannot determine which of two opposing slopes your character is standing on. He is also correct that moving or jumping just a little will usually get you out of that spot and correct the shake.

The flashing you refer to seems to be a programmed substitute for pain. When a pesky boar or other enemy hits you there is a red flash which radiates from the center of the screen to all edges. Similarly, there is a white flash when you successfully block a blow. The intensity and radius of that flash appears to vary inversely with one's success at blocking the blow. I tried turning off the options in the Video tab of the Settings menu one by one. None affected either flash.

Jonnin's suggestion of recruiting a buddy to help you test the game. Location, say your neurologist's waiting room, might also be important. Still, it sounds sorta kinda like traversing a minefield without clearing a path first.

Are there any modified graphics drivers or cable plugins that can filter out dangerous strobing at a system level? Accessibility options in individual games should be encouraged but I'd be nervous to rely on them.

A lot of the screen shaking is unintentional physics jank when your hitbox gets caught between sloped surfaces, so I'm not sure even mods can remove that. You can generally jump clear of it fwiw. :/

There's a misc setting to remove camera shaking. No sure about flashing.

Warning, the game has a fair bit of ship simulation where you are out on the water in waves. Dunno if that bothers you too. Flashing, I don't know about that, I don't know of any. Shaking, trees shake when you hit them, but with it turned off, not so bad generally.
try your 2 hours to refund to see if you can tolerate it, see if you can get a buddy to take you out in a boat or something...
