how did you died in ocean? sea monster. i'd hate to die in the ocean. most of the time it'll mean i've just lost my tools, bow and a set of armor (maybe harpoon too).
cuz i've learned my lesson. now i sail only with bare minimum (and resources to build quick workbench and a portal)

that's one of the options. (you need a lot of meat, cuz serpents provide one of the best hp food). how did you died in ocean? sea monster.
or you can just drown XD for example after mining leviathan and not paying attention...

i already saved items with antler pickageit was still annoying tho.just in case i'll suggest to use stagbreaker again. aoe stunlock is OP in this kind of situations. i already have prety good item base and foods i traveled entire swamp i need metal for upgrading armor. i builded a base cowered with stone walls in the swamp where i have smelter and forge build up iron sets but you know i cant kill 2 draug elit when i stuck i parryed them both and tried to dodge back but it didnt work.
or you can call someone to help you clear the crypt with you.

If you entered a dungeon in the swamp, you should have been able to bring better ql food and - far more important - made yourself stamina and health potions.
"Best" thing to do - imho - is to craft those potions at your main base and make sure you got 10 of each. Which means crafting both twice.
Meanwhile create yourself some food giving you better health and stamina.. Depending at which ingredients you got, craft 20:
Carrot Soup or Serpent Stew / Cooked serpent meat;
Cooked Fish / Deer Stew or Sausages
Queens Jam (I prefer Minced Meat Sauce) or Turnip Stew.
Add those to your last 3 slots, so you got quick access to them. Add the Health and Stamina potions to slot 4 and 5, leaving your main weapon, shield and a bow at slot 1, 2 & 3.
Next step is to bring yourself a spare hammer, your 2nd best armour, 2 Surtling Cores, 20 Fine wood and 10 Greydwarf eyes, so you can build yourself a portal. Build a 2nd portal at your main base and rename it "Swamp".
Now, head back to that dungeon and build yourself a small base, containing enough room for a chest, a portal, workbench and bed. Start by claiming the bed, then enter that dungeon and clear things again. When you notice you run out of stamina in a fight, use the potion. It does have a cool down, but with some smart moving you will be able to advance up to your tombstone and pick up the most usuful (read: weapons, armour, food, belt) items. Anything you can pick up after that is just an advantage.
Leave the dungeon for your temperary base, drop everything you don't need in the chest, return to pick up the rest of your items and continue clearing out that dungeon.
If you have found metal scraps you can't use the portal but at least you may be able to use it to take most of your other items home. Eventually pick up the metal scraps and return to your main base on foot or by boat and scratch that dungeon off of your map.
One major advantage, since you got a temperary base in the swamp, exploring it may actually become a bit easier now.
Thorin :)
PS: you didn't waste time. You learned a lesson telling you to enter an area better prepared next time. ;)

without cheats there are always options:
-you can get stagbreaker and try to destroy the spawner with it's aoe. since it hits through everything it may help.
-you can get your previous set of armor(which you should probably have, cuz swamp is usually a 3rd biome) and fight in it. with good food you'll be able to get your items back
-you can use corpserun buff: put 1 stone in your inventory and die at the entrance to the crypt (you can use monsters or type /killme command in the chat. it's not a cheat and it's available to everyone by default). then run back. take a corpse. immediately eat 3 food and while the buff will last you'll be nearly invincible(75%damage reduction and 10hp regen per second) which should be enough to retrieve your original corpse.
and it's false that you've wasted 50 hourse. at most you need to craft a new pick.
ps: btw you can build a bed and\or a portal on the crypt. which will make it a safe spot to respawn or run back faster.

In terms of food you should farm up what the swamp gives you before you get in to the crypts in order to play it safe.
So you want Muck Shake, Black soup and Sausages. Muck shake is easy to make that is your stamina at that level. Black soup is the only tricky one due to needing turnips.. but you need turnips for the food upgrade station to make any of them anyway so you should have them as well.
