Swamps looks the best. Plains just fun to be there. Black forest is boring .. seriously needs another one or two mobs. Mountains are okay but that biome also needs more.

For building, probably Black forest I suppose, something keeps luring me back to build there. But it depends what I want to make & how I make it kinda deal.... I'm one of those builders that like to use the actual environment & surrounding area to my advantage when building, like unique rocks, dragon egg nests, high hills, deep in the forests, etc. Anything I can use for a bit more of a unique build.

Currently trying to build something different in the Mountains at the moment. Favourite biome to visit is a toss up 50/50 between plains & Mountain.

Plains. Decent challenge, looks cool, and seems to have the most sensible spawn rates of them all. A bit harsh before you get endgame equipment though.

Least favorite is the swamps, they are simply so tedious to move around in, there needs to be an item that stops the endless "wet" and its stamina recovery reduction.

Mountain, it's so calm and pleasant...
Sitting at the window of my mountain top, reconstructed tower, watching the snow fall, listen to the background music and yet knowing it's hostile and brutal out there... I can sit there for minutes just watching and listening to the sound of silence... 🎶❄️

Oddly enough the swamps.

Plains for me. The landscape gives me Gold Coast vibes from TES4: Oblivion, or maybe some classic MMO zones that I remember.
If it were not the most dangerous zone currently, I would probably opt to set up my main home there every time.

Personally I havnt built much in the plains other than maintaining a farm.
Really just prefer to not have deathsquitos potentially fly over a wall and catch me off guard

you can build safe bases on the big rocks (no enemies nor events)

Plains. For some reason I find Fulings hilarious. Their sounds when they notice you crack me up and they are fun to drag into places like the Swamp so they can steam-roll raid the entire thing - good entertainment. I also like the giant stone stuff in the Plains and in general I like the autumn look of it. I also like seeing the Growths go to war with basically everything, including the Plains creatures.

Meadows are ok too but I am sick of seeing and hearing Grey-kin between the two staring biomes, they irritate me. I'd probably put the Mountains second to the Plains.

I actually considered that once but I was busy raiding fuling villages for flax and completely forgot about the idea. Thankyou

Mountains! Nice music, pretty, good visibility, fun to bully stone golems with a pickaxe, fun to one-shot drakes - it's very pleasant.

I feel so slow and bogged down in the swamp. I go to get iron or roots from abominations and then I head right out again. I did make a few tree houses there, but that's all. Get sick of all the rotten draugr everywhere, too.

For traveling, building and the sheer challenge, I love the Plains.

Plains. I like the looks of the enemies, the moderate danger, and the fact that they are easy to navigate through. Like the meadows as well, it is like vacation.
