I would love to think the gulls are flying off with boats but the dev's say it just not possible. Breaking it down seems to be the best solution. If you have a lot of stuff just make more chests.

This is one of the weirds things of the game. This happened to me too, now after using it i destroy the boat and put the stuff in a chest. Oh yesterday i was hunting, guess what i found 2 deers, the first was running and the second one was running too but on the back of the first one . A double deck deer.. weird things of the game.

never have I seen a boat disappear but I have seen a boat being broken by mobs and if you don't pick up the mats from the shore if it isn't to deep they despawn, I always break my boats down and put the mats in a chest when not at home.

I lost my first 3 boats. I thought it was a glitch, until one day I parked my long boat off shore and swam. I was actually in black forest (close to the plains). I had to swim to shore.
I was on shore maybe 15 seconds when I heard a "Smash" I stopped... heard another "Smash" I run back to my boat and a gobby is beating on it. I couldn't manage a shot w/ my bow and my ship was destroyed.

If you aren't finding any floating debris... then perhaps there are some shenanigans going on.

But I haven't lost a boat in weeks.

All my boats are now secured in docks. I make a dock, make it width of 1/2 core +1 full core beam and your boat will fit perfectly in that. Build walkways on either side, and secure the boat once its in by either placing doors on the side or small wooden floor pieces. It will hold fast.

For "Assault Landings" (especially on plains) Swim. Make sure you leave yoru boat off shore a decent distance. Then I drop camp fires all around the beach head so nothing spawns around my boat as I leave it or approach it (or loiter around it).

Once your boat is no longer in the zone you are loaded in... nothing can happen to it. Its when you are "nearbye" but "out of sight" when bad things happen.

Boats dont just float away and if you got disconnected, chances are it wasnt saved. Work on fixing your dc's.

He does not say he dc'ed. He quits the game and it should be saved but it does not because it is a already known bug.
So why do you post here if you have nothing useful to add?

if you are hosting your own server you can add yourself to the admin list and do a manual save in console before you leave.

Happened to me too. Definitely a bug. Though for now, within range of a crafting table, it seems to have stopped. It happens with the carver and the raft but not the big one.
