Do you guys build walls with the support planks on the inside or outside?
I keep them on the inside.

Essential information first: None of the reasons I give have anything to do with Valheim's game mechanics. At least as far as I know. Wall sections are not the only structural items that have reinforcing horizontal cross members. Stake wall sections have them also.
In real life, if one erected a stake wall with the horizontal cross members on the outside, one would be providing a finger hold and/or a toehold for an enemy scaling the wall. Therefore, I erect stake walls with the cross members on the inside.
In real life, it one erected an exterior wooden wall with the horizontal cross members on the outside, one would be providing horizontal spaces where rainwater could collect rather than run off. This could easily lead to faster weathering and weakening of said cross members. Therefore, I erect wooden walls with the cross members on the inside.
Players are free to object on aesthetic grounds. If a structural item performs its intended function, I don't give a rat's rear end how it looks. Anyone who does care is free to erect walls with the horizontal cross members facing whichever way they want.
To repeat, as far as I know, it makes no difference in terms of game mechanics.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2801508082This is useful. i did an experiment awhile ago to see which method would get a higher wall:
Never underestimate the ability to build things inside of things

Inside and then build another row inside the building facing the other way, so the wall is slightly thicker but does not show any support beams. Do you guys build walls with the support planks on the inside or outside?

I totally have no idea what you are talking about.
A wall piece has two sides: a plain (smooth) side and a busier (horizontal slats) side.
EDIT: It always annoys me the slat on the 1/2 wall NEVER LINES UP with the slat on the full wall ... It seems like it needs to be flipped 180 about the horizontal axis to work.

For some reason I though you were able to stick them to the inside/outside of the corner beam or something !! Maybe an advanced iron beam? I don't use them ha ha
Or like the floor pieces you can put above or below a cross beam.
Thanks for clearing that up!!!
Yeah it depends for me, most of the time I put the clean look inside but I don't really care about it too much.

I use beams all over the place and alternate the wall pieces so that the supports are on the outside as well as inside. They add texture to walls.

Large buildings, where I like to create an attractive interior living space, the horizontal slating goes to the outside. On smaller utilitarian housing, like stilted swamp portal/rest/repair shelters, slats are inside. 80% of my buildings these days are repair & restoration of abandoned buildings, I go with what is present upon discovery. I will leave as much of the existing structure as I can, and either add to the height of the walls or extend the walls outwards, or both, increasing the overall interior square footage. Oft times on my larger dwellings, I will slap darkwood horizontal beams on the support beams. I have even double walled a few homes, so no support planking is visible inside or out. I also have a few houses built with the lower 1/3 - 1/2 of stone, and the upper portion corewood poles.

inside.
seeing them on the outside makes me worried something is going to pull the nails out of the cross beam and collapse the wall :)
I also think the walls look more aesthetically pleasing from the outsdie too

I build wood poles over my wood iron poles, if I don't want the metal bands peeking out.
Alternatively, hold shift to free build a cage wall, into the middle of a stone wall.
