You should still get visits from the bird after defeating the Elder. There are triggers that make him appear.. I can't recall when I saw him when I was at your level, but I do remember seeing him again after making progress in the swamps.

There were others that needed his guidance. Having beaten the elder, you have proved you know how to take care of yourself, but some others may still be naked and scared, trying to use that hammer as a weapon, and thus, it is his time to guide them now.
