Mistlands1 portal led to Nowhere? Stuck now.
I have a couple inactive portals at my base just in case I'm in the middle of an adventure and decide to mark an area for later, or quick access back to base.
In Mistlands, I found a good spot for later so I put a portal. I renamed it to "Mistlands1" so it connects to another portal I set up earlier by the same name, but it wouldn't activate. I thought it was my spelling but nope. I named it blank so it'd go back to my extra portal so I can check the Mistlands1 portal, and even with only one portal with that name (as far as I remember) it was active. So that's why the one I set up earlier didn't respond. I figured I'd go in and rename the one there so it doesn't connect.
When I went through, I was teleported far from my base in an area I discovered a strip of (Running around the map without discovering the whole area, so just passing through) but didn't settle down. No portal was there at all. Much less with the name "Mistlands1" I was stranded.
Now I'm gathering materials so I can build a new portal to one of my extras, rename the few I used as extras, rename it to something else because I'm not sure why "Mistlands1" is sending me there.
Is that like one of those cheatcodes that do something specific when named?
Like PokemonGO, naming your Eevee "Rainer" would make it to a Vaporeon.

I had a similar problem. Had a portal in mistlands that was buried after the update. The portal stayed in tact though underground. If I use the portal I show up on the ground somewhere above I believe. So its basically a one way portal. I thought of digging under to look for the portal, but decided to keep it there hidden to trick friends :+)
I have a feeling this is what happened to you. If you make it back to base and the Mistlands1 portal is still active then that would confirm it is the same as my world, you have an active portal underground and when you use it it pops your character to the surface.
I managed to teleport back to base by collecting the materials needed (luckily all were nearby. The hardest was Fine Wood), creating portal to one of my spare portals, then creating extra buffer portals to test while carrying enough materials to create a new one if I got stranded again.
When I got to my Mistlands1 Portal in base, it was offline. So mabye it was a one time thing?
I was able to connect it to the intended target for the portal so I'm glad.

Mistlands1, I named mine Mistland 1, lemme guess, you also have Plains 1, 2. Swamp 1, 2, etc?
Depends on for what. If I'm exploring I'll name them that for simplicity. If the spot gets designated a good farm location for example, I'll rename it to that. Otherwise I have a portal room for exploring, Mistlands1 for first portal, Mistlands2 for next portal, EirExtract if I find a spot for those, etc. Those are examples. I'd probably have a notepad if I need information to reference. Like Mistlands1=None. Mistlands2= 2 Bug Spots/Magic Cap/Eir Spot.
As far as I can see right now, there's only Mistlands1. The rest are WolfBreeding, Plains Farm, PortalHQ, Base2, etc.

I recommend using the name waypoint "WP1, WP2, WP3" instead. Much easier, if you're going crazy with portals you may want to keep a written list with a checkbox next to each name so you know which ones are active and not and a brief description of where the hell they go.

Name the portal on the map ExAcTlY how you name the actual portal. And why not biome and directional &/or or something significant. Why make it a mystery you have to unravel each time? ie., bfspawner , treefarm, draugrfarm, sertlingfarm, elder, merchant, spawn, etc. If you are exploring roaming1 and maybe roaming2 that move with you and other end located in your armory so hopping in and out is quick. Put a cart next to it in armory for dumpage and off you go.
KISS. More opaque the harder it is to remember, if use caps randomly adds to confusion.

I called my first portal BF1, since (you guessed it), it was in the Black Forest!
After BF4 I change to more descriptive names for the most part, but still have a few old names like that. I think BF1 still survives, but the rest of the BF line were torn down long ago.

Do you use, or did you use, any portal mods?
No mods at all. I didn't even know there were mods for this game.

Do you carry a "roaming" portal with you at all times? That works well so I don't actually make a portal set unless I know I am going to use it, or it is necessary, like maybe Bonemass. Couple saves I have multiple roamers but am pretty diligent in the naming. I never use caps, spaces which has saved me much angst and name all exactly on map. That has saved my bacon a few times.

It’s not a cheat code, probably some sort of bug with loading areas properly. You can use command cheats to fly back to your base or something, or spawn in materials for a new portal.
Next time that happens I would recommend rejoining on a different character that is at spawn so you can view the portals without teleporting back
Thank you for confirming it isn't a cheat code. If it's not a cheat hopefully it doesn't happen again. I'm going to set up a portal nearby to test it again just in case. If it does that again, at least I"ll know not to name anything that unless I want that area. Luckily it led to a couple of firelings spawns so I have the hardest material to farm.
I only have one character. I never thought I'd have much use of using another.

I went back to my main world recently and portaled to an old base that I built in Mistlands. Although the full Mistlads plants, etc did not spawn there, the terrain definitely has changed.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2909696604
The portal was burried in the hill, so it was destroyed just after I got through. Fortunately all the mats from the destroyed building contents were sitting on the hill/roof. Unfortunately I couldn't remember the name of the portal, so I couldn't activate it when I rebuilt it.
There were enough mats to almost make a ship (I assume there wasn't a ship in there when the terrain changed, since I didn't find any ship mats), but no ancient wood or deer skin, so I couldn't make either ship. Fortunately there was a small black forest and swamp not to far away, so I was able to get the wood, build a longship, and sail to another nearby mountain base.
I have a couple more mistlands bases in that world. One is my Mistlands bar and restaurant in the tree tops, which I already verified is still there, and one inside a tree, which I'm now afraid to go to. :-)
I'll be more prepared next time!
