Only took 142 hours and 325 in-game days for me to whomp Yagluth.
And to think there's more content to come? Honestly the game wore out it's welcome somewhere around the 100 hours mark - but OK - keep adding more stuff!
Only thing that's going to maintain my interest beyond the 100 hour mark is a compelling story - and heaps of quests (ala the Elder Scrolls Morrowind)... but there's none of that here.
Also - less grinding. Most of the game is just crafting and smelter grinding up to a point. Of what action there is - when it is challenging - it's quite good. However getting the padded armour by farming flax (literally watching grass grow, lol) and raiding the swamp biome yet again was deathly dull. The dark metal weapons were nice but not even all that useful against the final boss. And when you are grinding in the weaker biomes there is no challenge - except to bat-away the annoying greydwarfs.
What would be fun? Gladiator survival mode! Beat up enemies - win money - buy armour - keep fighting. Etc. either solo or in a group. Focus more on the combat (which is fun) and less on the craft/grind loops.
The problem with procedural generation is having enough content to procedurally generate. The risk is having too many cookie-cutter dungeons, houses, etc. If the player goes into a dungeon and thinks "hmm... seen this one before!" the fourth wall is broken. Hopefully more updates can address this.

i think most of the things you wish are more suited for mods then the base game. cuz it'll require drastic changes in the mechanics (for example there are not quests in valheim right now. you're on your own from very beginning. some players even killed Yagluth first) Only took 142 hours and 325 in-game days for me to whomp Yagluth.

i think they are not mutually exclusive. it may be easy for some players (or you might make it easy by getting better equipment(which is mostly gated my time, not difficulty). but when you die you loose flat 5% of your skills. and in early game it's nothing. but in the endgame it relates to hours of grinding those skills back. which is punishing no matter how difficult the game is. You keep saying the game is too easy, but then you say skill drain is too punishing and you die too much. So which is it?
at least in games like dark souls you have a chance to get your souls back after death. in valheim if you died - you died and skills are lost.

- Yeah the game can be easy, but there is a lot of RNG involved. You can be invaded at any time, you can encounter 2* wolves that one shot you, this game is not mean't to be taken seriously in a way a Dark Souls game would be, since that game is far more structured and linear.
- Beating Yagulith first requires extensive knowledge of the game and a lot of exploits.. Good luck wearing no armor in Valheim. This approaches such a theoretical bs level, like not getting hit at all and not wearing armor SOUNDS possible, but only theoretically.
- The moment you move out of your "workbench carpet" enemies will attack you again, so you have to deal with them somehow. Get creative and make traps instead.
- I don't know how you are surprised, in any way, that dying late game is punishing; whereas early game is not punishing. This is basic video game design, even though I hate how the skill system is just a shallow puddle of a mechanic, but it is what it is.
- And Portals are completely optional, because you can find continents with almost every biome, and sometimes every one that you need. It's far more efficient to move your base as needed anyway. That's why I recommend this challenge. You might think "ohhhh all the time taken on a boat moving stuff around" but you really don't have to move a lot of stuff, ever. And when you have to move something important, it's ingots. So really, just don't knock it until you try it.

I have 115 hours or so in and I only downed 2 bosses, if you’re playing this game like a race against time it might be a really quick end, but this game isn’t meant to be rushed (opinion, people are free to play as they want). I personally take my time, building, breeding, growing food and of course crafting the best gear from the biome at hand, I upgrade everything to max and go for the best recipes before I even think of attempting a boss.
Hate it or love it I use a mod to make enemy npcs much stronger (I upped their damage and hp by 10%) even greylings and boars are a threat and all biomes are absolutely deadly.
I even built a tree house in the swamps as a safe zone. Just don’t rush, it’s not about killing all the bosses ASAP and be done.
I think there are 9 biomes in total planned for Valheim (so possible that we have 9 bosses total). I don’t know what more is in store for us in detail but I’m sure a lot more is coming.
I would like to see specialisations though, like chef and blacksmith, each specialisation has a huge and dangerous grind to get the final reward.
Like chefs could maybe end up being able to drop a cauldron of special food for the whole group.
Or the blacksmith can end up crafting shield spikes which the team can apply to their shields for extra damage per block.
The gatherer has the ability to find root foods which only grow underground which have special properties.
I don’t know just ideas. They don’t have to be tied to talent trees as we know them (points here points there) just one huge “quest” very minor rewards in between the start till the end. But the end reward is great (not OP but great)
TL:DR: Game shouldn’t be rushed, new updates and content definitely coming, hopes of specialisations in the future.

i'd say the difficulty is in your head. you can use troll to mine copper and tin for you. which will give you a pickaxe without killing 1st boss. then you can find scrap iron burried in a swamp even without a wishbone. hoe can help and it usually clips through edges of the biome if you're lucky. then you can either get silver or try your luck in iron4 armor. (unfortunately you can't wear padded cuz it requires killing moder) - Beating Yagulith first requires extensive knowledge of the game and a lot of exploits.. Good luck wearing no armor in Valheim. Think your missing the best part of the game. Building stuff. If your don't rush to kill all the bosses, you can keep building in and around your meadowlands based realitively undisturbed. I plant my own trees there and even when I chop wood at night, I only get maybe 3 greydwarves coming around. If you haven't beaten too many bosses, you can simply ignore raids. Helps to have a moat and towers. I have a network of them all tied together by rooftop paths that connect my buildings.
The game is not an RPG. Other than you are role playing the main charactor. I find there is plenty to dao between growing carrots, fermenting mead, having a boar farm in pits (for fun) not because I need the meat). Got my bees tended and brewing my soup. It just might not be your game. But 100 hours is good value even so.

Or maybe you could get my luck. 8 times in the last day I've gotten the 'You're being Hunted' event while I was neck deep in farming fulings. I have yet to survive that event. Almost made it the last time but the tar monsters were bombing me as well at the end.

Yeah, same here. Our eight players on the dedicated server have just been exploring and building. We're about 847 days in, and only took down the first boss.

Yep, those black growths are just utter b-tards.
I did most of my cursing in the game trying to fight Yagluth while being side attacked from growths carpet bombing me. It's bad enough that your shield breaks your poise from those black blasts, but that they poison you AND slow you down to that you can't avoid the next bombing run of black gunk. They just cheese you to death and I hate them.

I like those being hunted events - I wouldn't mind an arena "survival" mode dedicated just to different waves of enemies.
They seemed fun except for early on in the game when the trolls spawn right on your base, smacking you up, then smacking up your house and bed, so you lose everything and have nowhere to spawn back close to them.
...But live and learn :)

Another thing:- the skill drain seems to matter for very little.
Ideally you'd want to be a particular skill level to do well in the boss fights - but after dying so much, none of my skills even went beyond 50 - lucky that some went beyond 30- and I still beat all the bosses solo. Most skills hovered around 10-20.
So what is the point of the skill system really? Maybe don't punish players with massive skill drains?

Seriously, the building#s the best part of the game. Have you seen some of the amazing stuff players build? Go check it out on Youtube! That was the most fun part actually, with me and my brother-in-law playing together on our dedicated server. Every time I logged on, I'd go something like "ooookaaaaaay, that huge-ass stone wall wasn't here last time and - WHAT THE HECK, WHAT'S THAT OVER THERE???" XD

I beat it without taming a single animal.
Knowing what I know about the game now... could well be possible to do it without portals - just a lot more brutal. Long sailing expeditions all over the map taking half an hour or so only to retrive my stuff from a fuling that killed me -- only to be killed by the same fuling again! Oh and my boat gets destroyed as well!

You keep saying the game is too easy, but then you say skill drain is too punishing and you die too much. So which is it? If you don't like taming animals and building but only killing stuff you should play something else really. I can think of several titles to recommend. The game is really what you make of it.
You don't like all the useless greydarve mobs interrupting you. Then build a carpet of workbenches. Problem solved. You can so this in your base and around your mines or whatever. Sometimes they get taken out if outside you base. By that time, the mine is played out anyway.
Myself, I need all those greydwarve. I have lanterns all over mutiple bases. Need the resin they drop. Make lemons out of lemonade eh.
