Yeah, as Ryzilynt said, they're probably spawning just above the workbench's sphere, if they're spawning in the sky above you.

If it was single player then time stops when you log out.

Well drakes can random spawm 10m from the ground
Workbenchs acts like 1/2 sphere
Why ? Because deathsquitos spawns at 1m from the ground , i have a little plains island full covered and these little flyers dont spawns
Maybe these 10m drake spawn range are higher than workbench roof area

I've seen drakes spawn far away from spawn spot and fly to it. My mining base near dragon nest and I've seen a lot of time how from the bottom of mountain drake flies towards that nest.

Are the workbench ranges spherical rather than vertical cylinders? The latter is faster, simpler to code and easier to parse for players. Odd decision.

No idea, I guessed at the sphere. Seems like it would fit in with the merchant bubble. But now that I think it out loud I feel like i remember reading (somewhere) that the merchant "bubble" was actually a cylinder.

Would items remain that long on the ground in this game? The last time I was in this area was well over a month ago (irl).

Yeah I thought it strange too. First time I have seen that. I did a walkabout outside, even though I was just there looking for iron in chests, and saw blueberries, wood & medium leather on the ground. Took me a second to figure out what it was, the I realized it was material for a blue&white striped banner I had attached to the chimney. It is possible my base was not attacked by a drake intentionally, it could have been collateral damage from its engagement with a golem, in the vicinity of my cabin.

maybe it was a drake that was in aggro range of your base just before you ported out and you didn't notice.

There is a stretch of shoreline just outside my HQ, Greyling & Deer were spawning and my boar were dying. I blanketed that stretch of beach with workbench coverage. I am still always finding deer parts but two days ago I was feeding my boar and I saw a Greyling spawn. I ran over and killed it, then whipped out my hammer to see if I had missed that area with workbench coverage, I hadn't! Although the instance of Greydwarf spawn is a lot less than before, every once in a blue moon one will spawn despite workbench coverage it seems.

I am guessing due to the fact that drakes in essence cannot be prevented from entering a defensive perimeter, because they constantly roam without being aggravated, preventing drake spawn is not a game mechanic. Drake will also attack a player's base in their absence. I recently used a mountain biome portal I had not used in over a month, and after exiting my cabin I found all my banners had been destroyed. There was still some materials from one laying in the snow.

Yeah I dunno about drakes attacking your stuff when you aren't around. I have a couple mountain bases that drakes will bother from time to time , but never when i'm not there.

Yeah I see drakes reappearing it what seem to be covered spots sometimes, yet in others I see them suppressed. Do drakes have fixed spawn points? And if they do , are you sure it isn't outside of the sphere created by your table? Chose the word sphere on purpose, not circle. Pretty sure benches create a 3d sphere. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
