i don't quite understand...
the new mistlands armour gives barely any more defence than the old plains armour.
the new mistlands sword does barely more damage than than the old plains sword.
the new mistlands bow does barely more damage than than the old swamp/mountain bow.
the new magic weapons do pitiful damage.
those are all I've gotten to so far...
there's clearly more room to upgrade the new sword/bow/armour to level 3, but there's no ways to upgrade the black forge beyond level 2.
none of the new stuff feels like it's worth all the effort.
except the feather cape, that thing is a beaut!
so, even after being fully upgraded with mistlands gear, you're barely any better than using what was available before...
that can't be right, can it?
am i missing something????

I like valheim and i think it has a bright future but EA is litle more than a lazy corporate excuse now.
That aside...
I think they may have made armor have diminishing returns faster...I get better results from using root chest, pad helm pad legs in the plains than i do with full padded. Could be perception. Not sure.

I am pretty sure it's always been this way in the game. You can never fully upgrade your gear in the current biome due to the need for workbench/forge upgrades. Meadows level 4 gear will require Black Forest which for level 4 gear will require Swamp which for level 4 gear will require Mountains which for level 4 gear will require Plains.
Plains was the only weird exception to the rule iirc which let you upgrade to level 4 in the same biome.
It's been a long time since I eyed the crafting upgrade system in detail so someone can correct me if I am wrong on that. But if the above holds true then it makes sense why you can't upgrade further in Mistlands and it sounds like Carapace level 2 is 2 points more armor than level 4 Padded.
Doesn't sound too bad but could be buffed. I only looked at two armor for comparison but level 4 Bronze offers 42 armor vs. level 2 Iron with 48.

The new armor has new perks for the set.
It will probably notably out-armor old stuff once you have tier 4 upgrades, which we don't yet.

There is no excuse to release incomplete biome after 1 year and 10 months of waiting. The fact you can't upgrade to tier 4 is slap with a **** in the face tbh.
This biome is a lot of pretty obnoxious grind. There's is a lot of searching and chores gathering materials in Mistlands with ass terrain and ass visibility - and for all that effort, you don't even feel like you've upgraded.
At least you can bath in tons of marble without any effort - just build a stonecutter and dismantle Dvergers' structures. Got like over 2000 marble 10minutes by dismantling a single tower.

I find the new weapons to be very powerful / big upgrades from previous lvl weapons. All of the magic effects are a big bonus to CC via frost or stagger via lightning i.e., Mistwalker and Himmin afl.
The frost staff does good dps and CC, ember staff does damage, stun, and AoE.
Prot staff is really fun, especially if you go full mage with dead raiser.
Demolisher is a direct, and big, upgrade to sledge.
The weak links by far for weapons has to be Krom and Jotun bane. My favourite weapon is Krom but the least functional aside from parry -> special. I was hoping it would replace Crystal BA, but doesn't have it's perks.
Jotun bane is lackluster, but at least it gives a dot and has the new special.
The heavy armor (all biomes) has always been mediocre at best; it's just armor with a movement reduction. Once you get a better handle on the mobs in the given zone, the armor isn't needed as much and the movement penalty isn't worth it. So good for zone start, but mixing and matching is the way to go later.

That‘s the way it is. We have to wait for black forge and galdr table upgrades.

The thing is, the game files state they can be upgraded but just lack the crafting station upgrades. I don't know what went on what made them think these were any kind of good decisions. I'm collecting all the materials needed to upgrade all the mistlands gear from lvl 2 to max, the list of items is absolutely ridiculous, especially for so few items.

Early access
Not adding 4 crafting station upgrades is not an early access excuse when the game data is already there to upgrade the items. All the items function this way, going for lvl 2 max makes literally no sense.

Yeah you're missing a lot, actually. If you think staff of embers does pitiful damage then I'm sorry but you just don't know what you're doing and should probably find an easier game to play.

I also agree that the implementation of magic as it stand snow feels like too much of a departure from Valheims overall thematic approach.
I also agree the mistlands gear is ALL underwhelming, especially the weapons.

Workbench can have 2 upgrades just in the meadows, 1 upgrade requires bronze and fine wood, the other obsidian. Once you reach bronze you can easily go to the mountains and get some chests for obsidian.
Forge, 2 upgrades can be obtained in the black forest, however the other upgrades are swamp max, and one needs some chains, which can be easily obtained by just killing some wraiths.
For Swamp, Mountain and Plains, there technically are no limitations. And then we have Mistlands, 1 upgrade for each crafting station. It feels very off, the only item we ever had which was malfunctioning like that was Troll Hide armor, which needed a lvl 6 workbench for lvl 4, they just lowered that one to 5 max.
Back then we had more difficult biomes to visit for items, making players wait for such a long time for an update and then pull this is very demoralizing. People will think, why bother making the equipment at all, either they are disappointed, don't make it at all or just cheat in max quality gear.

I like that the powercreep has ceased a bit after mountains. The new sword is excellent for mistlands but on other biomes silver or bm may be better. That doesn't make those weapons obsolete later.

Could be things connected to those upgrades they haven’t added to the game yet. So they opted to not put them in. Just guessing.Early access
