Forced into co-op?
I've found the game really unenjoyable after hearth and home. I feel like there is faster respawn time and an increase in mobs, plus the limitations from the new food systems making stamina so bad, that I am finding single player too frustraiting. It's a shame as I loved this game. It feels like the game is now designed for co-op and they are trying to push people to this playstyle. Anyone else find this? or am i just being really unlucky with repawns

if the root of your issue is with the new food system you could always try out some mods that revert it such as HearthandHomeOldFoodStats on thunderstore

The whole combat system is more difficult because of the food changes. About the respawn time... I don't think anything changed, it was always like that, mobs would respawn all the time and frequently (especially at night). Even the first event "forest is alive" or whatever it's called can be tricky if you're not prepared for it.

Actually, the food is better now, you just won't eat the "next progression" in food, you need to "management" the food you ear. Food now gives health and stamina, but the majority gives you higher amount of health and almost no stamina, and higher amount of stamina but almost no health. You need to know what to eat so you can have a good amount of each, stamina and health. It's more like know what you eating, instead of just eat the next tier of food and move on. I just started a game play with my other 6 friends, we didn't kill the first boss yet. I don't know correctly the name of the food, but what I'm eating is the glowing/gold mushroom (or honey if I have it), ribs (drop from deer) and red mushroom. The idea is to have a food that gives you a high amount of stamina, a food that gives you a high amount of health, and the third one could one to enforce your health, enforce your stamina, or be a middle ground.

The food is worse, you can't have the same stats that Fish Tacos, Serpent Stew and LMP gave you. You also can never have the stats again that you had in previous tiers.
Whether that is actually bad for the game however remains to be seen.

But that's the problem, you are playing with friends so you're ok. It's solo play that's the issue for.me. I am managing the food. I have 2 stamina foods and 1 health, i think it's lox pie, bread and blood pudding? I'm in end game gear (last boss defeated before the update) with all armour and weapons as upgraded as far as possible. But there are so many.mobs on the mountain now that the balance is gone. It's constant fight fight fight

I didn't bother resuming my previous playthroughs, I deleted everything and started fresh and I find the game more difficult than before, mainly because mobs are always there not because they are hard to defeat. There is no time to breath, it was like this before the update, and yes I do think this should change in some way. Whatever you do you constantly have to defend, and it takes away from the fun, base building or resourse gathering.

I understand what you mean... Part of it is also they suggested we restart... so I restarted...
I don't want to play... I know the slog that is coming... it is a crying shame... I'm literally struggling to play while again... That search for copper... mine fight mine fight mine fight.....
I was super looking forward to getting into it...and then... I realised I have 100 hours of work to build what I want to build... I just don't want to go through it.
Stamina plays a major part in that. (as does durability and building costs)
I don't mind the game is good... It just is a slow play...

As for the food here is a quick tossed together spreadsheet I put together showing the best "cooked" food combinations...
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1T1bFOYN62fgc8rI3EEXtmgITydfa1WpRe3Zx1zjW-VE/edit#gid=0
180 HP and 125 Stam is the balance point. Its plenty survivable once you are in Wolf Armor and using the Spiked Mace (cant remember the name) the Knockback helps in bad situations.

Solo play is more frustrating. I agree

The numbers of monsters were certainly increased. On a new world, I get now two greylings instead of one in most circumstances in the Meadows.
Their quality as well: on my first tower claim in the Black Forest, I was visited at night by two shamen (one two-starred), and later by a two starred-brute. I half emptied a quiver of fire arrows, and thankfully, the brute was unable to enter the 1-wide passage between the two rooms.

Well after playing for some time (solo) I think I'll just quit because things like this next screenshot are pretty much common now. Black forest (day time).

To beat such group would require constantly moving and by doing so you simply pull even more mobs, and the mobs never stop chasing, you either have to kill them or die for the chase to stop which makes no sense at all. It takes insane amounts of time to find and to actually get some resources you're after. Mind you I found only 1 dungeon for the red cubes on an entire starting island.
I feel as if game was made slow and hard on purpose just make it look like you can have many hours playing it. Yeah many hours for sure, but not having fun and instead being frustrated. I think the game seriously needs some work, at the current state I won't be playing or recommending it to anyone.

Im mean standing there and trying to fight is the worst tactic you could use. Fight should always require movement like it does IRL. Th fact that you want to just OP crush mobs would make the game fully pointless. There needs to be SOME danger.
1. Learn to use fire arrows DOTs help
2. Dont stand there and just spam your attack button
Since the food fix yesterday there have been zero issues for me and everyone on my server. We like the new balance changes. Stop just wanting to be OP and wipe through everything.
Oh and by the way, you can one shot all those mobs with a good mace like the Porcupine. You can literally use the knockback on multiple enemies every swing.
