Yes he takes more damage for blunt weapons.

i had a nice little tree house to escape to if needed. then i discovered that i could land on his head and he couldn't hurt me there. rode him like a blubbery stallion. great fun!

Bonemass gives the best challenge out of the 5 bosses, there's no shame in flattening the ground with a hoe or building a tree house, those tools are part of Valheim so adapting to overcome obstacles is simply part of a survival game, I'm sure many of us took multiple tries at bonemass however if you truly need a hand don't hesitate to ask, a lot of people here would gladly help you out. I cheesed him by finding a nearby indestructible tree and built a tree house a bit higher then the height of his summoning skull. Cover it and place a workbench. Max out the level of iron mace and wear at least level 1 iron armor. And bring poison resistance meads. Other than that just make sure to get out of the poison cloud when he barfs and parry when he melee hits. This is enough to solo him no problem. You dont need anything else.

Honestly, I accidentally cheesed this one by completely flattening every bit of ground around the spawn area. I was trying to keep leeches out, but it had the side effect of not allowing any adds to spawn in. I've heard that an AOE weapon like stagbreaker or the sledge can take care of them though.

Use blunt on Bonemass. Run when he leans back before the poison breath. Attack right after he tries to melee you. Lead him in circles around the skull. Don't ever forget the poison resist.
