How to dodge?

I've seen some video stuffs just roll towards the enemy with correct timings but when i tried that to a troll with a log it instant kill me. Is there any way to practice dodge against giant things? I don't like long range combat because my fighting style is close combat

You are immune to damage during the dodge animation. So you don't need to escape the attack , just be in the animation when it passes the hit box.

Wait, i can parry troll's attacks?
you need a shield that can parry. like bronze buckler. (so no, tower shields or bone shield will no do)

also you can parry even ranged attacks. this will stun the archer.

You could try using a large shield, like say the bone shield to practise, you can then block a lot of damage and see the 2 attacks the trolls (both types of troll) do, one is a swipe which is less damaging and the other is a smash which can insta kill early characters.

I tend to parry the none log using trolls, dodging the 2 handed smash and parrying the swipe... I tend to just burn the log user as that hit detection can be iffy to deal with.

Troll cave in the case of trolls. You can practice your dodges in tight quarters and if it does hit you (and you live but need to heal) you can leave the cave and the troll cant follow you out. To avoid the whole being instantly killed part, make sure you're rested and have good food. 2 health and a stamina food will make you less squishy, but dodging also takes stamina so you may prefer 2 stamina foods and a health if you are specifically practicing dodges. Also a good idea to have decent armor, but if you are actively fighting trolls you may not have many options yet. But hey, if you beat the troll that can go towards better armor to!

I'm currently at bronze armor set. I was thinking i want to replace troll armor set instead because they're lighter or maybe replacing one of them. Does it helps for movement?

Any dodge control without pressing mouse2?

I have bone shield. It's kinda hard reading the troll's attacks due to many trees and hills in the area

I once actually accidentally hit the "x" sit button while fighting, right up close and personal, a log swinging troll. And sat as the troll went to hit me for over nine thousand. Just missed me...

Soo... dodge can be achieved many ways young grasshopper..

Edit: Serpent shield is powerful and effective, and easy to acquire with a finewood bow and fire arrows.

Yeah, but you're gonna need some practice to get the timing right. Trolls telegraph their swings, so you're likely going to parry too early and get slammed. However, once you've got the timing down, even a bronze buckler and bronze spear can make quick work of blue boys.

Wait, timing? I've been doing it wrong this whole time? I would just block and get knocked back. I could never get into melee range fast enough to counter. I just get knocked back over and over.. but if I time it, something different happens? Where does the game explain this?

Does this work on golems, too? They seemed impossible to melee. They have better range, better speed, and knock back with every strike. I thought kiting them was the only way. Same as trolls..

Round shields, bucklers, and (to a lesser extent) weapons have the ability to parry. You need to initiate your block shortly before you get hit to execute a parry. Parry is able to block more damage than standard blocking during the parry window.

If an incoming attack would do less damage than the sum of your weapon and shield parry values ([block armor] x [parry bonus]), your attacker will be stunned for a moment. Attacking them in this state deals bonus damage.

Tower shields lack the ability to parry. You can parry missile attacks. (For Hearth and Home, the devs patched that out because it made no logical sense. However, it was too fun so they brought it back in.)

I'm not sure where in-game relevant parry information is presented. Maybe the shield tutorial info? At the very least, parry stats are on relevant equipment, which should clue the player in on that capacity. The game tends not to hold the player's hand much, which can be refreshing for some players and frustrating for others.
