Serpents no longer run away on low health?
I thought them running was intended to make us use the harpoon?

Well I started new game recently and at least 2 did run away before I finally managed to kill one.

maybe missing the joke if so whoosh but i thought all the serpent stuff just floated on the top of the water when killed. No , the harpoon was so you could drag them to shore to get scales/trophy. Them running was to encourage experienced players to use frost arrows and/or to save n00bs from death at sea.
Yeah. Scales and trophies sink, meat floats. Need to kill them on land or shallow water to reap the full reward.

Made me think of 1:33 in this video. I enjoy when they run.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntT-FE2g_NQ
I agree. It's nice to have some variation in the AIs, make them more believable and challenging, not just predictable zombie AIs that always fight to the death. I wanted all the creatures to have this want to survive. If I was to make a change it would be that they kept running from you until they regained a certain amount of health.
One of my favorite memories was me chasing down a serpent which lead me to another serpent. While running from that one, I ran in to another which took me out. It took me a bit but, I got my revenge.

True but the bigger the nastier the creature the more aggressive it should be.
I can understand the challenge of hunting with the harpoon dragging them back and killing them on land or shallows but its a damn sea serpent! If anything they should be tougher and much more agressive and doing more damage

Yeah baby! We can dine on serpent soup on a regular basis while letting the scales sink to the bottom like they deserve (because no serpent shield that can parry)!

Think i might be in the minority but im so happy sea serpents now have balls!
The buggers chased me after i ran out of arrows and just as the shore came into view turned my boat to matchsticks.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water.......

No, no run away now. This is offically introduced bug in new patch. IMO this is part of long-term plan of decrasing of player experience, introduced to make people go away and stop complain for lack of promised DLCs.
